The Vilas Residence | Crysp Interior Design | Gurgaon
The client, Mrs Ritu Bajaj approached us to create a home that would be an extension to her personality. The house is located in an upscale Gurgaon residential complex, THE VILAS. The apartment spreads over a carpet area of 2800 sq. ft. The natural lighting was extremely constrained, at the backside of the apartment, where most of the bedrooms are located. The living and dining area however is bestowed with ample sunshine.
There was never a particular design style to the house, but both the Crysp design team and the client wanted an experimental approach to materiality & colours. The end result however had the GREYs used as a base colour all around the house.
THE LIVING ROOM
This suggestion would make most people uncomfortable in their colour selection zone but here we had a client who let us experiment with a BOLD palette. No other colour would’ve done justice to the design brief. While DARK GREY is a risky colour to be used all over the residence but popping it with right amount of accent colours like coral / mustard gold, helped create an atmosphere and an ambience, one of its kind.
With no particular design style as such to the house interior, however the elements did come together as ‘RETRO MARRIES CONTEMPORARY’. The mouldings on the walls added to the neoclassical grandeur with bold accents with contemporary furniture, lighting and artworks.
The ceiling design has been designed minimally mainly to hold the lighting placement. With the Gurgaon climate, as the provision of fans become a must, hence the chandelier and other decorative lights have been placed on the corners/ sides. The dining chandelier, however has been placed over the centre of the table. The furniture in the living room has been designed on contemporary lines. The sizes and proportions of all the furniture pieces have been worked out to create a tailored, liveable space that caters to client’s lifestyle; a peaceful refuge for the family and a frequent social space.
THE DINING ROOM
The dining space does have a lot of character. A signature pattern on the dining stone top being one. The deep coloured marble very appropriately named ‘evolution’ was ourcd from the RK Marble store. The stone flaunts of beautiful grains in shades of beige, medium browns to grey. The dining chair design was picked after a lot of thought on the comfort level required. The main concern of the client being that the chair comfort added a lot to the space as their social get togethers over meals went on for longer hours.
The small bar cabinet kept on the far-left corner of the room was a refurbished older piece. The shutters of the same were lacquered again to match the colour palette of the room. Interestingly the handles were fabricated out of the same stone as the dining top. The sideboard has also been designed on the similar lines as the bar. The walls behind the dining side board were kept simply grey with finer mouldings forming a perfect back drop for the bold ‘not to be missed ‘gold artwork from THE WHITE DOMUS. The chandelier added a soft luxurious element to the rustic boldness for the dining stone. The beautiful light fixture has been sourced from THE JAINSONS EMPORIA in Delhi.
THE POWDER ROOM
The powder room was of great significance in this particular house, as the clients entertain guests quite frequently. The walls of the powder room are cladded with ‘william grey’ marble all over, to present a cohesiveness to the space. The elements overlaid on the marble were made to specifically stand out.
The fixtures used from STRENHAGEN, a German sanitary ware brand, had the perfect style and curves. The highlight of the powder room however re the hand crafted ‘Mother o9f pearl’ mirror and also the pendant light from EMANATE STORE in Delhi.
THE MASTER BEDROOM
As the rest of the house, the walls of the master bedroom have been painted dark grey. The client’s had a strong desire for a bold design element as part of the room overall look. The hunt ended with the beautiful rather unusual colour combination of peach, taupe, black and gold wallpaper. The geometric randomness in the wallpaper from THE MIND GAP brand was a love at first sight for all of us.
The wallpaper was flanked with perfectly leather fluted panels on either side; also accented with brass trims. In order to keep the wallpaper as the main highlight of the room, all other elements such as the furniture were softly merged into the backdrop The pendant lights are the handcrafted crystal lamps from EMANATE, Delhi.
THE FAMILY LOUNGE
The family lounge is the room with a varied materials singing a symphony. The lounge doubles up as a home office and family home sanctuary. The walls are clad in archi-concrete wall texture from ASIAN PAINTS and distressed lacquered fluted panels. The rustic palette in the room is further enhanced by sand blasted table tops. Comfort played the most important role in the space as the room is used by the family extensively. Leather clad sectional sofa is the perfect retreat.
Digital art prints by ART4U effortlessly blend into the backdrop adding the perfect quirkiness to the rusty backdrop. The home office is designed keeping in mind the functionality and aesthetic requirement of the room.
THE GUEST ROOM
The guest room flaunts of a slight traditional tangent to the styling. The old bed which carried a sentimental nostalgic quotient, stands as the focus of the smallest room of the house. Keeping up the old charm, the ottoman is decked in the pichwai theme fabric from PURE HOME.
The wooden bulk on the furniture and wooden floors is softly balanced by the sage green tints in the décor pieces, artwork and bed linen. The PICHWAI artwork has been especially customised by the local artisans of Nathdwara.
PARENT’S ROOM
The design brief for the parent’s room was very articulate SERENE – CALM- SOFTLY COLOURED Powder grey worked as magic for the soft colour palette that was nicged out for this room. Subtle prints on the wallpaper added minimal texture on the walls. The stoic classic bed was purposely kept on neutral palette so that the teal blues on the accent chairs blossomed in best aesthetic sense.
