Aarunya : The Light of Early Dawn | Arch Deco | Thane
Aarunya, is a home that reimagines traditional Indian aesthetics through the lens of modern sensibility. A home that blends the charm of Indian tradition with the ease of modern living. This interior design project brings together familiar colours, textures, and details from Indian culture in a clean, contemporary space that feels both warm and inviting.
The clients reached Arch Deco while the site was still under construction, enabling early layout and electrical adjustments that saved time and costs. Named Aarunya – the first light of dawn, this project marks a fresh start for both the clients and Arch Deco, as the studio’s very first collaboration.
Entrance
At the entrance, one of the clients’ special requests was to display a cherished vintage gramophone. This antique piece now sits proudly in a custom-made niche, becoming both a conversation starter and a personal touch that connects the home to its owners’ memories and heritage.
A locally-made wooden bench with carved pillar-style supports and a striking blue fabric seat finished with tiny brass pins, humbly greets you at the entrance.
The bench corner wall features a half-round mandala, crafted with plaster and POP using a stencil and finished in soft tones. The other half appears as a curved shelf in the mandir partition, blending art and function, and highlighting the spiritual essence of the space.
The Living room
The layout was designed to be clean and functional, allowing easy flow between spaces. True to its name, the living room invites the first light of day, creating a bright, uplifting start to mornings.
A warm ‘kesar’ orange sofa anchors the living room, adding a bold, traditional touch. Inspired by Indian rituals, the colour brings energy and positivity, complemented by brass accents and wooden elements for a balanced, modern feel.
Traditional ‘konada’ niches act as small display shelves, finished in vibrant floral tones bougainvillea pink, marigold yellow, and peacock blue with a delicate golden ethnic print adding a touch of cultural richness.
Kitchen & Dining area
The kitchen features soft pastel blue cabinets with sleek brass-finish profile handles, creating a fresh yet traditional look, while the adjoining dining area hosts a wooden table that echoes the warm tones and textures of the living room, tying the spaces together effortlessly.
Master bedroom
The master bedroom features a beautiful woven patterned laminate, perfectly framed on top of the wardrobe shutters, bringing in a textured, natural element inspired by traditional Indian crafts.
To avoid a plain white backdrop and add warmth, a light blue ethnic print wallpaper highlights the bed’s back wall, bringing subtle pattern and depth. The room strikes a balance between clutter-free comfort and strong material presence.
Small bedroom
Small bedroom, holds a clean open layout during the day by using foldable furniture such as a folding study table and a sofa cum bed. To continue the ethnic theme, a rich peacock blue shade was introduced which brought a royal charm while keeping the space cozy and calming.
Aarunya is not just a design on screen, it is a home that celebrates beginnings, both for the family who lives in it and for the designers. It reflects how traditional Indian aesthetics can be thoughtfully celebrated into modern lifestyles, with warmth, intention, and grace.
With handcrafted details, rooted colour palettes, and a layout that lets light and life flow easily, Aarunya captures the essence of what interior design can truly offer: a space that feels personal, purposeful, and deeply connected to its people.
