Ground Zero Studio | Ground Zero | Surat
Spanning across an area of 400 sq ft, the design aimed at creating a space which emphasizes visual connection thereby achieving privacy whenever required. Being an architect’s studio, uniqueness was one of the major driving forces while the design progressed.
The entrance plays on a monochromatic palette of materials along with a slit of greenery to break the monotony. The firm’s logo is cut in brass, engraved on dyed veneer and suspended through MS support. As one enters, the conference area is the focal space connecting the staff area, main cabin and other services. The oval conference table is an offset derived from the periphery of the space and stands out with its curved geometry. Scaled models of few of the completed projects are kept to accentuate the conference area. These models represent the highlighting element of that specific project. The tube of flexible light defines the shape of the conference area and also highlights the painting on the louvers.
The vertical louvers that divide the space for privacy also acts as the element that binds all the spaces when opened. These louvers render privacy and spaciousness as and when required. The painting on the louvers forms a perfect backdrop when the panels are closed. The painting depicts the language of designing that the principal architects usually look up to. The staff area is a cosy corner highlighted with a bold tag board following the monochromatic theme.
A fluted glass partition screens the staff area and master cabin. As one enters the master cabin, the master table in white stands boldly upon the black terrazzo flooring. The ring of light defines the pocket where the principal architects work. The ledge behind the table acts as a window seating borrowing light and ventilation from the fenestration behind. The green pocket acts as an informal seating that adds charm to the master cabin and rejuvenates the entire space. A niche has been carved in the informal seating area that acts as a material library upon which there is a sliding tag board covered in a highlighter fabric. Amidst the monochromatic scheme, the painting in yellow brightens up the entire space.
