Obsidian Edit, located in Thane and spread across 950 sq. ft., exemplifies this approach through a carefully distilled design language. Envisioned by Elysian Design Studio, the residence explores the interplay of a monochromatic black-and-white palette, subtly enriched with accents of rust that introduce warmth and character. The result is a space that feels composed and deliberate, where every surface, transition, and material contributes to an atmosphere of quiet sophistication and visual clarity.
The Principal Designers, Kamakshi Agrawal and Kushal Gupta, share that the intent was to create a home defined by refinement rather than addition. The design process focused on editing—paring back elements to their most essential form while ensuring each detail holds purpose. From bespoke furniture pieces to carefully framed architectural interventions, the home reflects a disciplined approach where cohesion is achieved through restraint. The monochrome palette is not treated as a limitation but as a canvas to explore contrast, texture, and depth with subtle yet impactful gestures.
Inviting Entry
The entrance is defined by a modern main door that sets a refined and contemporary tone from the outset. Clean lines and a restrained palette create a sense of quiet sophistication, while a sleek console in a dark finish adds contrast and functionality. Subtle detailing and curated wall accents enhance the visual appeal, establishing a composed and welcoming arrival experience.
Harmonious Living Area
The living area unfolds as a harmonious blend of softness and structure, articulated through a neutral palette enriched with warm accents. A plush upholstered sofa with rust tone hints, a modern accented armchair, and a couch with golden legs highlight and anchor the seating, paired with sculptural black coffee tables that add contrast. The television unit is designed with a minimal profile, seamlessly integrated into the wall. A striking lighting fixture and soft curtains in a dual-type enhance depth, creating a space that feels both elegant and inviting.
Graceful Mandir
The mandir is thoughtfully positioned within the living area corner, integrated as a serene vertical niche, defined by soft arched contours that lend it a graceful architectural presence. Finished in a muted palette, the unit features elegant shutter doors detailed with slender metal inlays, offering a delicate balance between openness and enclosure. Within, a dedicated platform with drawers provides functional storage, while a subtle back panel motif frames the deity. A suspended pendant light enhances the sanctity of the space, casting a gentle glow that elevates its peace and contemplative ambience.
Rhythmic Dining Area
The dining area is composed with a balance of functionality and visual elegance. A solid dining table paired with chairs featuring woven cane backs creates a tactile and inviting setting. Overhead, a linear pendant light adds rhythm and focus in this dining area. Built-in cabinetry with glass-front shutters provides ample storage while maintaining visual lightness. A sculptural, free-flowing mirror adds a sense of movement while subtly amplifying depth and light within the dining space. Subtle wall detailing and a neutral palette ensure the space remains cohesive, offering a refined backdrop for everyday dining.
Subtle Kitchen Area
The kitchen is designed in a contemporary language, articulated through a soft pastel palette that brings a sense of lightness and calm. Clean-lined cabinetry ensures a streamlined appearance, with well-planned storage solutions that enhance functionality while maintaining a refined and uncluttered look. Subtle finishes and minimal accessories maintain visual clarity, resulting in a space that feels both efficient and quietly refined.
Classic Bedroom
This classic bedroom is designed as a calm and restful retreat, defined by a soft, monochromatic palette. A custom bed with an upholstered headboard anchors the space, complemented by minimal side tables and warm lighting. Clean-lined modern wardrobes blend seamlessly into the walls, maintaining visual continuity.
A sleek console dresser in a deep finish, paired with a full-length leaning mirror, creates a refined vignette that blends functionality with understated elegance. Light curtains filter natural light, enhancing the serene atmosphere, while carefully selected décor elements add a touch of understated elegance.
Earthy Bedroom
This earthy bedroom introduces a slightly warmer and more expressive tone while maintaining overall restraint. The bed, with its upholstered headboard, is set against a subtly detailed wall that adds depth without overwhelming the space. A window-side seating ledge creates a cosy nook, enhancing functionality.
The wardrobe is designed with softly contoured shutters and a muted finish, offering ample storage while maintaining a seamless and elegant visual continuity within the room.
