The Mark Decor by Khushboo Shah and Meghna Shah with regard to their recent project, the makeover of 150 years old law firm into a modern workspace while keeping the heritage structure and its grandeur intact in the heart of Calcutta High Court in Kolkata.
Tradition is hard to buck in the legal community. While law firms adopt a traditional décor, our brief from the client was simple: a sophisticated space, elegant, simple, and contemporary. Hence, the colour palette created was in very light tones with a lot of natural light to make the space look bigger and brighter. – Said by the Designers.
As one enters from the main door, the light tones with a lot of natural light welcomes the user into the office, inculcating earthly vibes. The designers focused on meeting the requirements with an open plan for workstations. As an alternative, see-through glasses are simultaneously used to carve out cabin areas and divide spaces without building up boundaries and blocking vision. This matches with the company’s working style of encouraging people to interact & collaborate continuously in different cases. Sustainably sourced furniture, wallpapers and décor give a classy finish. This, apart from the abundance of glass for shelves, is a style for a space to accommodate books, while a glass partition provides natural light in the office. While designers used mirrors in such a way that the space looks more spacious and keeps things bright.
One cabin is located near the workstation area to provide connectivity with employees and also ensure privacy. Since the client also wanted a naturally ventilated space, the designers decided to use the windows to their advantage. While using mirrors on the wall with a geometric pattern enhances the blue vertical lines with the furnishings and thus, the cabin space looks bigger and brighter.
The main chamber on the upstairs followed the earthy tone of wood throughout the furniture and on the floor. Since the chamber is divided into two parts, a working space and a seating area, it is accentuated by the wall, as the designers added a pattern on the wall in such a way that it doesn’t recognise the door and it adds more character to the entire space. While natural light and wallpapers accentuate the elegancy experience. The ambiance of the entire office was intended to create a sense of comfort with the working environment.
