It’s never fun to go to the hospital, but the Designer Akram M Arabiyani has designed with unique interior in this project. AL-SHAFI Children’s Hospital Project Interior in Ahmedabad may have come close to creating a colourful, whimsical atmosphere for kids and their families. The Design features include indirect lighting and soothing colours to create a calm setting. Overall, the idea of the simplistic interior highlighting the important spaces. Good designers always speak for their users! A perfect example of such a contemporary interior is a recently completed Pediatric hospital by Innovation Designer, Ahmedabad. It not only speaks for its users but also succeeds in delivering a simplistic, breathable space with no hint of overdoing in the hospital. The project came with the challenge of accommodating all the services and facilities in a 2200 sq. ft. area. Innovation Designer wanted to build a distinctive children’s hospital with a welcoming environment integrated with nature, supportive of technology and flexible for future needs. Designer make it more unique by inserting a sequence of curvature corridor with curved ceilings into the hospital. The combination of the material palette of white with wood on the interiors, and ambient natural or artificial lighting allows for a peaceful environment within the hospital.
Upon entry, children and their families are greeted with a clean, colourful environment with plenty of wall activities and youthful touches throughout. As parental involvement was an important factor, the design of the hospital maintains cool atmosphere, sophisticated design with sitting arrangement. On entrance, visitors can first notice the pharmacy on the left side and a large window on the right side where natural light comes during the daytime. Pharmacy design draws attention right from the entrance door where the colour palettes give it a unique flavour. The use of colours and sleek finishes combined with wooden plays a major role in creating a visually appealing atmosphere. Lighting plays a key factor in making the space warmer, thereby bringing the focus to the products and circulation inside the pharmacy. While on the entrance ceiling light fixtures compliment the wooden décor of the entrance area. Eye-catching graphics in the form of a timeline wall have been incorporated with three ribbon- orange, purple and light pink.
The reception and the waiting area are a neatly designed space with a minimal approach. What brings tranquillity here is the technique of colourful panels like colour plates highlighting the name of the hospital. An L-shaped sofa in three different pastel colours just compliments the décor of the wall. All over space design in curved theme like flooring tiles design, walls with paints, and with respect of that reception table also design in curved shape. The reception table looks elegant due to the combination of white and brown. Eye-catching graphics on the reception table, and the corners of the walls create a happy environment for kids. The pastel walls, the floor, and the white ceiling reflect a lot of indirect light, creating a soothing experience for the users.
Further, visitors can see the spaces design with seamlessly through the singly loaded curved corridor that links them all. The curved corridor accentuates with sober curvature ceiling design with warm strip light which also matches the design of flooring in a curvature form. Even on the walls three pastel colour ribbon is use to highlight the curvature of the corridor.
The procedure room and Doctor’s consultation room is interlinked which is separated with Translucent partition. Doctor’s consultation room, which is sophisticated with respect to the doctor’s profession. While stepping into the consultation room, the décor of the room is as per theme of curve. A table with a white top and wooden base just compliments the wooden panel and it’s continuing to the ceiling work with a grove pattern. The circle wall art design with wooden framework looks great. While the design of the consultation room on furniture and walls is for the toddler distracting during the check-ups. It is a well-lit space with major use of whites and hints of pastel shades adding focal points to the entire space. The light fixture for the table is a perfect choice to achieve this desirable character for space and for furnishings.
Designer provide a relaxing and comfortable environment for feeding room interior. A fun graphics on wall that lightens the room and provides a soothing ambiance. The orange rocking chair sofa that mom uses is ergonomic and comfortable which also suits the interior décor.
Client wanted to set up a newborn care facility having few bedded NICU with radiant warmers. The client’s vision was to create aesthetically appealing facility for babies and their family by keeping that all things in mind designer design NICU with minimal furnish and compliments the wall decor. It was designed as per theme and well set up with all the required equipment. Electric boards are highlighted with blue-pink colour, while the walls are décor with some eye-catching graphic art for babies. Designers make sure that everything should be well organised and look spacious in this space.
Very thoughtfully, the designers have achieved the same freshness across all its spaces- be it the general ward. The same material palette and the design concept gets followed across all the wards. Materials that are easy to maintain and those meet the standards efficiently in this area. Neat design, adequate lighting, and ventilation sufficient to the significance of the space. Rather than having a few large openings, the spaces have windows to evenly distribute the light. While wall art in general ward just creates a good environment for kids. And near wards a well design help desk is to be placed for any requirements.
Special and semi-special rooms follow the same theme with sitting arrangements. The wall décor, curtain tones and sofa are the highlights of the room which complement the interior décor. Designers make sure that rooms should be designed in such a manner that children do not feel like a hospital, due to which some toys are also placed for the children to play in. The sofa’s colour is as per the theme of room décor, as the sea blue sofa compliments with the back wall while the violent sofa compliments the curtains of room. Due to which it creates a playful environment for families and children. While in the corner of the corridor, toys are placed on open shelves for kids to play with.
Innovation designer make sure that visitors will get the theme of this Pediatric center while transitioning from one room to another. Various cartoon characters secure their place on the white wall, making the transition more interactive and amusing. For easy maintenance of hygiene, cleanliness and a well organised design is to be created. This project very well justifies the enthusiasm of its user-group along with fulfilling the functional requirements of a facility with such multitudes. The ultimate output done by the designer that gets manifested here is a sober, vivid and tranquilizing space for the patients to truly heal themselves. So, the journey of this project is designed, keeping in mind all these aspects. And at the same time, all these spaces are interconnected in terms of design concept.
