The Iki Home | Spaxis Design | Pune
The Japanese aethetics of Iki is a concept that is considered to be an expression of carefully calculated simplicity, which also encompasses ideals of spontaneity and originality, a lack of self-consciousness, and is considered naturally, casually chic.
While not inspired by Japanese architecture or style, “Iki Home” is a home inspired by its core concept. A home that is not just elegant, but also has timelessness etched in its very being – a home that is effortless and yet, has all the comforts. That is what the beautiful design of this 4BHK “Iki Home” translates to.
LIVING ROOM
The Living Space was visualized as a space for unwinding after a long day of work. The comfy sofa, along with the curved center table and complementing TV console are all custom-made to add a bit of qurkiness to the minimalistic theme. A colour palette of greys and blues helps bring out a relaxing atmosphere, while the wooden furniture sets the right tone of warmth for it to feel cosy and snug.
DINNING ROOM
The dinnig room is an extension of an open kitchen, and also the living room. This makes it an ideal space for entertaining as it ensures free movement and communication between the three areas. The assymetric shelves and fixed cabinet at the end of the dinning room are a great way to display important memrobilia as well as store crockery and tablewear. A warm colour theme of sage greens and wooden browns is simmered by the greywashed walls – making it a perfect balance of warm and cool tones.
SWING
While combining two apartments, there are often columns that can’t be touched. Having a swing as a partition ensures open, uninterrupted space while also acting as an effective separation. The swing is created with the goal of it being a luxurious comfort, with patterns that match the furniture of the living room as well as the dinning area.
STUDY
Borrowing from the pattern of the shelves in the dinning area, this study has open shelving that is great for storage as well as makes for an aesthetically pleasing display unit. The wide desk and two closed storage cabinets at each end of it gives the couple a space where they can work together.
MASTER BEDROOM
The master bedroom is tastefully designed to the relaxing hues of greys and blues that supplements the colour palette of the house. With a secondary wood panelled headbaord and floating side tables, the bed is surely the highlight of the room. The grey panelled wall and the elegant pendant lighting above the side tables are the cherry on the cake.
WALK-IN CLOSET
With the home owners not wanting to leave any stone unturned to make their home a luxurious retreat, a walk-in wardrobe was basically quintessential. Huge closets with tinted glasses, a gigantic mirror, and a dresser with floating shelves – it is a dream come true for any fashionista. Not only is it chic in its appearance, but is also uber functional.
PARENTS’ BEDROOM
The parents’ bedroom is doused in relaxing shades of pastels and beiges. While the colour scheme is light, it also radiates a lot of warmth. From the cane sliding doors of the wardrobe to the soft velvet panelled headboard, as well as the slightly curved sidetables – every design detail chosen is chosen so that it creates a subtle and serene environment.
GUEST BEDROOM
The guest bedroom is a play of patterns and colours. The slightly curved oblong mirror and the headboard of the bed, both contrast with the straight lines of the bedframe and the side-drawers. The matte-black finish lights, the artistic monochromatic paintings and the patterned black-and-white headboard create a playful amalgamation of blacks and whites in accessorizing the room. What is noteworthy is that none of these combinations take away from the design, but instead add and create a symbiotic space.
“We always – always – try to conjure a design that meets the requirements of the clients. But what we also do is – we make it aesthetically pleasing. And this is possible only when you listen to the clients. They have vague ideas that we take, work on and make into a functional design,” says Helly Shah and Sanjana Shah – Head Architects of Spaxis design.
