The Nordic Aangan : A Masterclass in 8,000 Sq. Ft. Multigenerational Luxury in Ahmedabad | 1:1 Design Studio
In the vibrant architectural landscape of Ahmedabad, Gujarat, a new benchmark for residential excellence has emerged. The Nordic Aangan, a sprawling 8,000 sq. ft. luxury bungalow designed by the acclaimed 1:1 Design Studio, is more than just a residence; it is a curated experience of light, texture, and family connectivity. By blending the clean lines of Modern Scandinavian design with the functional complexities of a multigenerational Indian household, this project stands as a shining example of why 1:1 Design Studio is considered a top-tier luxurious interior designer in Ahmedabad.

What makes this project truly remarkable is the balance of scale and economy. Executed with a total budget of approximately 2.2 Crores INR—covering both architectural and interior design—the studio has demonstrated that high-end, bespoke home decor and architectural integrity can be achieved through intelligent material sourcing and meticulous spatial planning.

The Architectural Narrative: A Symphony of Connectivity
The core philosophy behind The Nordic Aangan was to solve the age-old dilemma of urban living: how to provide intimate, private sanctuaries without sacrificing the collective “togetherness” that defines a family. Spanning three meticulously planned levels, the bungalow uses a vertical hierarchy to organize life, ensuring that four generations can coexist under one roof in absolute harmony.

The undisputed protagonist of this architectural story is the central staircase core. Bathed in a daring, sun-drenched burnt orange hue, the stairwell is far more than a transit point. Finished with warm teak wood steps and framed by minimalist railings, it serves as a vertical gallery. This “architectural spine” creates a powerful “connected effect,” drawing natural light through the levels and encouraging family members to forgo the modern lift in favor of a mindful, rhythmic ascent. It is a tactile reminder of the home’s heartbeat, proving that a bespoke designer in Ahmedabad can turn a functional necessity into a work of art.

The Social Heart: Inclusivity and Nature on the First Floor
While many modern homes relegate the elderly to quiet upper floors or secluded corners, The Nordic Aangan makes a bold, empathetic statement by placing the Grandparents’ and Great-Grandparents’ bedrooms on the first floor.

This strategic placement is the soul of the home’s layout. By situating these private quarters on the primary social level, the seniors of the family remain effortlessly “socialized” with the daily rhythms of the household. This floor serves as the main Social Hub, featuring an expansive, open-plan living, dining, and gourmet kitchen area. Because their rooms open directly into these communal zones, the grandparents are never isolated from the family’s energy.

Furthermore, this level is flanked by the stunning Podium Garden. This elevated green space allows the elders to remain deeply connected to nature without the need to navigate multiple flights of stairs or leave the safety of the home. Whether it is a morning walk on the terrace or watching the grandchildren play from their doorway, the design ensures that the eldest members of the family are the most connected to the home’s “Aangan” (courtyard).

Ground Floor : The Intersection of Work and Wellness
The journey begins on the ground level, covering the vast footprint of the 8,000 sq. ft. plot. Here, the layout prioritizes professional utility and entertainment. For a family that values a work-life balance, the studio integrated a sleek, professional home office and a plush guest suite to host visitors in style.

Adjacent to these spaces is a state-of-the-art home theatre, designed with acoustic precision and velvet-soft finishes. However, the true luxury of the ground floor is the secluded courtyard. Functioning as a “verdant lung,” this internal garden brings the serenity of nature into the very center of the home. It ensures that even in the heart of a bustling city, the residents enjoy total privacy and a constant influx of fresh air and dappled sunlight.

Private Quarters : Boutique Elegance and Whimsical Wonder
As the home ascends to the second floor, the design transitions into the private realm of the younger generations. Each bedroom is a masterclass in bespoke designer furniture and tailored aesthetics:

The Master Suite:
Designed with the aura of a high-end boutique hotel, this room features sophisticated black polish and brass accents. The layout includes a private lounge area and a walk-in wardrobe, epitomizing the lifestyle of luxury living in Ahmedabad.

The Kids’ Bedroom:
This is perhaps the most innovative space in the house. Utilizing the vertical volume, the designers created a double-height mezzanine for play. The highlight is a unique “threaded net”—a suspended reading and play nook that offers a whimsical yet safe environment for children to explore their imagination.

Materiality and Aesthetical Serenity
What sets The Nordic Aangan apart on a global platform like Interior Lover is its commitment to materiality. The aesthetic marries minimalism with organic warmth. High-end matte grey flooring provides a neutral, serene base, allowing the rich grains of red-brown teak wood furniture and wall paneling to take center stage.

The color palette is equally intentional. While the burnt orange stairwell provides a vibrant focal point, the bedrooms use softer tones—like the calming purples and sleek grey laminates found in the senior suites—to promote rest. As a premier bespoke interior firm, 1:1 Design Studio has proved that “togetherness” and individual privacy are not mutually exclusive. By strategically separating high-traffic social zones from quiet retreats while keeping the family elders at the heart of the action, the project achieves a rare balance of modern luxury and traditional values.

Interior lover team’s view on the project
Defined by its expansive scale and composed elegance, The Nordic Aangan is an 8,000 sq. ft. residence in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, envisioned by 1:1 Design Studio under Principal Architect Prashil Modi. The interiors present a sophisticated interplay of Scandinavian minimalism and Indian contextual warmth, resulting in a design language that feels both restrained and deeply rooted. A calm, neutral base is established through muted greys and soft finishes, enriched by the depth of natural teak and finely detailed surfaces that introduce warmth and tactile richness.

The material palette is intentionally curated, allowing subtle contrasts and textures to create visual interest without overwhelming the composition. Clean geometries and balanced proportions lend a sense of order, while bespoke elements and curated accents add individuality to the space. Lighting is treated as an integral design layer, gently highlighting architectural features and enhancing the perception of openness. The overall composition achieves a seamless balance between connectivity and privacy, allowing the home to feel both expansive and warm. Through its refined materiality and thoughtful detailing, The Nordic Aangan reflects a timeless approach to contemporary luxury, where design remains elegant, cohesive, and enduring.
