The Fourth Point | 4 Dots Atelier | Anand

An architect’s own studio is arguably their most challenging and rewarding project. It serves not only as a functional workspace but as a tangible manifesto of their design philosophy. This studio is designed to be a living canvas, a space that fosters creativity, encourages collaboration, and immediately communicates the firm’s aesthetic sensibilities to visiting clients.

The core conceptual anchor of the studio which is inspired by the quote of Zaha hadid is boldly stated on a central wall: “There are 360°, so why stick to ONE? – Zaha Hadid”. This quote serves as a daily mantra for the team, encouraging boundless thinking and reminding them that design solutions are infinite.

Spatially, the studio embraces an open-plan layout to maximize visual permeability and natural light, even within a compact footprint. To prevent the space from feeling enclosed, clear glass partitions are strategically utilized. This maintains an acoustic boundary for private discussions while ensuring the entire studio feels connected and expansive. The layout seamlessly transitions from a collaborative workstation zone to a more private principal desk area, ensuring a logical flow of daily operations.

The material and colour palette is a masterclass in balancing warmth with industrial edge. The walls are finished in a beautifully lime wash textured, earthy blush tone, providing a soft, grounding backdrop that steps away from the sterile whites often seen in corporate environments. This warmth is subtly contrasted by the sleek, modern grey of the ergonomic mesh chairs and the clean lines of the custom-built workstations. A beautiful cultural touch is integrated near the principal desk, where a traditional, intricately decorated Mandir space is nestled harmoniously within the modern shelving.

Perhaps the most striking architectural feature is the ceiling treatment. Instead of concealing the services behind a conventional false ceiling, the electrical conduits are intentionally exposed. Painted in stark matte black, the piping traces sharp, geometric patterns across the ceiling, culminating in sleek profile lights and minimalist fans. This approach not only maximizes the ceiling height but transforms a purely functional element into a dynamic, industrial art installation.

A highly thoughtful architectural intervention is found in the passage heading toward the pantry. To prevent this compact corridor from feeling confined, a carefully planned glass slit was introduced. This strategic opening not only makes the space feel significantly wider and more open, but it is also masterfully aligned to offer a direct axial view of the sacred Mandir space. A strategically placed indoor plant sits in the foreground of this sightline, softening the transition and enhancing the perceived depth of the compact passage. Throughout the studio, such strategically placed biophilic elements breathe life into the space and soften the geometric rigor of the fixtures.

Careful attention to detail is evident in the quieter corners of the studio as well. A cozy lounge area, featuring a minimalist grey sofa, offers a relaxed setting for informal brainstorming or waiting clients.

Ultimately, this architect’s Studio is a space that practices what it preaches. By marrying raw industrial ceiling details with warm, tactile surfaces, and open collaboration with respectful privacy, the studio stands as a testament to holistic, 360-degree design thinking.

Interior Lover team’s view on the project

Defined by clarity and quiet confidence, The Fourth Point is a contemporary studio in Anand, Gujarat, designed by 4 Dots Atelier under Principal Architects Harshil Soni andMit Pandya. The space reflects a thoughtful approach where simplicity drives function and expression, creating an environment that feels focused and composed. A soft, earthy palette sets the tone, allowing subtle textures to introduce depth without overwhelming the visual balance. Clean lines and measured proportions guide the design, ensuring a seamless and structured spatial experience.

Materials are chosen with care, blending smooth finishes with tactile surfaces to achieve warmth within a minimal framework. The design avoids visual clutter, instead relying on precision and restraint to define its character. Light is treated as an essential layer, gently enhancing surfaces and maintaining a calm, steady ambience throughout the day. Thoughtful detailing ensures that every element feels connected, contributing to a cohesive and refined atmosphere. The result is a studio that feels modern, efficient, and quietly expressive—an understated yet strong representation of contemporary design thinking.
