Habit-at is a 2000 Sq. ft. modern apartment home featuring a 3bhk and not to mention an informal living space that doubles up as a WFH space (much needed in today’s times)! The home belongs to a family of three who yearned for openness in the previous layout of this same apartment. And so, what we gave them was an open plan, breaking open the walls of the kitchen – dining & informal living space, making it all into one big family area!
Material-wise, the use of birch ply in furniture as well as fixed decor ties the theme of the entire home together. Birch ply has been stained and grooved and CNC-ed in various ways to achieve a singular yet varied design language for the house. There is play of geometry and colour all along to make the space feel homely and fun! Everything – from the loose furniture elements such as the swing, dining table, metal consoles, wall art and murals have been customised for the project in order to make this home a true “Habit-at”!
LIVING ROOM
The living room being the space where one treats their guests was designed to have a warm palette. Wooden panelling in the form of birch ply shingles was custom made to decorate the wall and create a welcoming backdrop.
DINING ROOM & KITCHEN
The dining room which faces the balcony is adorned with a white modern geometric wainscoting. The crockery cabinet behind has been made in a combination of birch ply, blue laminate & tinted glass shutters. A wall separating the kitchen from the dining in the older version of the same room has been removed enabling a more open kitchen plan. This enables the kitchen to have an island counter cum breakfast counter.
INFORMAL LIVING ROOM
The informal living room ends up being the space where the family hangs out the most. It has a comfortable low seating arrangement with bright upholstery to enliven the space. The room spills over into the common balcony and comes with a study / work home area. This enables the space to be used by different members of the family at different times of the day in multiple ways.
MASTER BEDROOM
The master bedroom sees the use of birch ply in a different way, where in the furniture has been stained in 3 different shades of the colour blue. This adds to the cool quotient of the space since the room belongs to a young couple.
PARENTS BEDROOM
The parents’ bedroom was designed to have an earthy vibe. Warmth of the wood (birch ply) has been paired with a soft green upholstered head board. Stalks coming out of the headboard add some drama to the bed back.
GUEST BEDROOM
The guest bedroom has a pastel colour palette that has been balanced with the use of colour grey. White ash wood has been used to complement the birch ply furniture.
BALCONY
The balcony happened to be the favourite space of the user and was to have the quintessential ‘Jhula’ to enjoy the evening breeze as well as the morning tea. The swing has been customised to suit the palette of the rest of the informal family area.
