Shree Residence, located in City Light, Surat, designed by Prayosha Architects, is a thoughtful interpretation of contemporary family living rooted in cultural values and Vastu principles. Planned for a nuclear family, the home is shaped around openness, connectivity, and a strong sense of belonging. The design balances tradition with modern functionality, creating spaces that feel welcoming, comfortable, and deeply personal. Seamless transitions between shared and private zones encourage interaction while maintaining privacy, resulting in a home that reflects the family’s lifestyle through a refined, cohesive, and thoughtfully curated design approach.
The Principal Architect, Ar. Abhishek Dabhi shares that the design was envisioned as a home where traditional values and contemporary living coexist effortlessly. The planning focuses on creating seamless connections between semi-public and private zones while ensuring comfort, practicality, and visual harmony. A defining design gesture is the continuous wooden framing element that visually binds the interiors together, creating rhythm and direction across spaces. Natural light played an important role in shaping the material palette, influencing the use of exposed brick, wood finishes, patterned surfaces, and reflective materials that enrich the spatial experience.
Earthy Living Area
The living area unfolds as a spacious and inviting gathering space where material richness and thoughtful detailing come together effortlessly. Exposed brick walls create warmth and texture, while polished marble flooring reflects natural light beautifully across the room. A large blue leather sectional sofa anchors the seating arrangement, paired with sleek wooden side tables and a minimalist center table. The television wall features a floating wooden console that runs along the brick backdrop, creating a clean and balanced composition.
On either side, a custom Indian seating unit is set against a textured charcoal-grey feature wall, creating a calm and inviting corner within the living area. Open wooden and metal shelves showcase curated décor accents, adding character to the space. Overhead, the distinctive FRP-patterned jali décor ceiling framed with wood establishes a strong visual identity, guiding movement while introducing architectural character to the space. Extending from the living space, the balcony welcomes abundant daylight and city views. Planters arranged along the edge soften the urban backdrop, creating a refreshing and visually connected outdoor retreat.
Serene Mandir
The mandir is designed as a serene spiritual corner enriched with intricate craftsmanship and symbolic detailing. A beautifully carved wooden screen featuring sacred motifs and bells creates a striking focal point, while the handcrafted foldable door panels introduce depth and cultural significance. Inside, artistic murals depicting traditional narratives add character and reverence to the space. Framed by exposed brick walls and warm wood finishes, the mandir balances spirituality with elegance, allowing it to remain deeply rooted in tradition while integrating seamlessly into the residence’s overall design language.
Vibrant Dining Area
The dining area is envisioned as a vibrant social space that combines functionality with visual charm. A solid dining table paired with upholstered blue chairs and a bench creates a comfortable setting for family gatherings. Decorative blue ceramic plates arranged on the wall introduce colour and personality, while suspended globe lighting fixtures bring softness to the ambience. The patterned ceiling continues from adjoining spaces, strengthening visual continuity. Modern open display shelving with artefacts in different geometric shapes enriches the setting, creating a dining environment that feels lively, welcoming, and thoughtfully curated. A patterned Roman blind introduces a neat and tailored finish to the dining area, filtering natural light while complementing the space’s clean lines and contemporary character.
Minimalist Kitchen Area
The kitchen adopts a clean and efficient layout defined by simplicity and practicality. Soft-toned cabinetry is paired with warm wooden accents and stone-finished surfaces to create a balanced visual composition. A heighted breakfast counter serves as a functional workspace while also encouraging interaction with the adjoining dining zone. Open shelves add functionality, while hanging planters bring a refreshing touch of greenery to the kitchen. A custom on-site graphic composition introduces a layer of artistic expression, adding depth and personality to the kitchen while maintaining a bright, organized, and cohesive spatial experience.
Classic Dadis’ Bedroom
Conceived as a tribute to tradition, the Dadi’s bedroom embodies warmth, familiarity, and cultural authenticity. Every element is carefully composed to create a space that feels both comforting and timeless. A custom upholstered headboard featuring traditional motifs anchors the room, celebrating artisanal craftsmanship and heritage. The exposed brick wall lends depth and tactile richness, while classic wooden wardrobes finished in muted tones blend functionality with enduring elegance. A window-side seating nook becomes a quiet place for contemplation, bathed in natural daylight. Traditional artwork, handcrafted details, and a restrained material palette come together to create a serene environment that honours generations of memories while offering a graceful and comfortable living experience.
Eye-soothing Daughter’s Bedroom
The daughter’s bedroom is designed around soothing green tones that create a fresh and uplifting atmosphere. A thoughtfully detailed wooden bed anchors the space, blending seamlessly with the room’s warm and cohesive design language. A metallic feature wall behind the bed introduces depth, complemented by warm wooden paneling that continues into the study desk and storage elements. A window-side seating nook offers a comfortable spot for reading and relaxation while framing expansive city views with a pleasant blind curtain. The TV wall is highlighted with eye-catching patterns and a simple wooden console unit, ensuring functionality without compromising aesthetics. Clean lines, natural light, and carefully selected finishes give the room a youthful yet refined character.
Eclectic Son’s Bedroom
The son’s bedroom embraces a contemporary and slightly funky aesthetic through its combination of textured surfaces, dark accents, and warm wooden elements. A custom broad platform bed and headboard with vertical detailing establishes a strong visual anchor, complemented by a semi-transparent treated glass backdrop that enhances depth while maintaining visual connectivity within the space. Open metal shelving introduces a structured and functional display system. Positioned near large windows, the study area benefits from abundant natural daylight and expansive views. The combination of wood flooring, textured surfaces, treated glass, and minimalist furnishings creates a refined, contemporary environment that balances privacy, openness, and functionality.
