“THE BREATHING HOUSE” a climate responsive structure turned in to dwelling. With the provision
of cavity walls over east, north and west façade, preventing heat transmission through walls is
achieved. Using earthy materials and hues of nature as a material pallet to generate a sustainable
home for living. With provision of PEX piping over the flooring, it ensures favorable temperature
through summery days and maintaining the overall thermal reading of the house.
The front façade contributes to the combination of exposed brick complementing the rustic shaded
screen covering the frontage.
In the era of modern contemporary theme, breathing house reaches to traditional linkage and
adopts using kota stone with exposed brick cladding over the house. The courtyard is located in a
manner that it provides view through both adjacent family sittings and dining area. Considering the
open planning and locating the functions, zoning is provided in a way that entire house is divided in
three parts. Every bedroom overlooks the courtyard and enjoys the view.
Adjacent to dining area is the water body rich with lush green edges creating the area livelier and
vibrant. While dining area serves the view of courtyard along the water body and accessible is to
kitchen, presence of Pooja area brings up the space to be more aesthetically pleasant, positive and
feasible for the user. Warm chandelier lights, exposed brick wall and handmade art works hung
over the wall adds beauty to the space.
The traditional informal Indian family sitting is the combination of colorful tapestry and antique
pieces of furniture along with backdrop of exposed brick work. The anthropometry of the sitting is
spacious and providing comfort like a “divan”. The ambiance of the space is vital with vintage view.
The formal living room contains window sitting with sleek center table and traditional wall hangings
lighting up with the view to courtyard.
Parents room is designed minimal in nature with attached terrace to savor the view with lively
context. Keeping the ceiling clean with wooden edges brings subtle look to the space. The tv
cabinet in front of the bed retains carved flower following horizontal groves. This minimal and sensitive approach is providing great impact over the design. The walk in wardrobe has storage units with traditional print screening providing the entire area a heritage look.
The lounge area is provided with view of vertical stairwell wall along the circular cutout providing visibility and projector screen above the void. Utilizing the space storage is provided along the edge with miniatures of birds and other artifacts. Contrasting the hues, the sofa tapestry is shade of occur yellow. Behind the lounge area is the work space cum library with maximum storage capacity acquired by the function and providing visibility to the lounge area through provided window in between.
The daughter’s bedroom is inspired by traditional fabrics and wooden furniture along with complementing pink patterns. The poster bed with white draping along window sitting is the center of attraction. Customized dressing unit with traditional knob is reuse of former brass vessels top adding checkered thread in order to provide a button view is the design detail. The room serves view to the courtyard and provides a vibrant and fresh ambiance.
The son’s bedroom comprises of simple neat features with shades of blue. The headboard is having geometric soft paneling complementing the wood. While the wardrobe is highlighted with subtle groves and bold ocean circular knob, a screening is provided between bed wall and the bath area ensuring the view. Window sitting overlooks the courtyard and completes the space.
Second floor comprises of guest room and Jacuzzi. Provision of Jacuzzi over the terrace acquires leisure with ambiance. The space is headed with a view of city lights and lush green plantation, a perfect place to spend a quality evening time.
While we live in a global world, designing a personal and intimate space according to its function and retaining the cultural roots is the design aim. Home is designed considering its living and truly enjoying the spaces generated.
