The Residence of Brijesh Nandani & Kirti Nandani | J Architects | Vadodara
After four months of thinking about merging their two 2BHK apartments into one, the father Kirti Nandani contacted us again. He confirmed going ahead with designing only one as an studio apartment for his son, Brijesh Nandani and his wife. Their brief was clear, elegant interiors with budget-friendly materials. The biggest challenge was to fit all elements of a larger space into their 725 sq.ft. home. A master bedroom with an attached bathroom, a small kitchen, a dining with a bar and a guest cum study room. So, we focused on a design rooted in minimalism and comfort. clean lines, a cool colour palette, and sparse but carefully curated decor accents were chosen as the foundation of the design language.
Even though they did not merge their two apartments, the entry was to be designed commonly. An elegant metal jali finished with veneer became the common door for both the main doors. Two veneer consoles on either side make you feel like you entered a single apartment.
The living room is set up with a Prussian blue lounger sofa layered with quirky cushions with a bold black center table. The brightness of the sofa is elegantly complemented by the Italian-finished GVT tiles in grey. The TV unit is an interesting piece! It was designed to house a storage, display and pooja unit and a home theatre system. A compact dining table for four with a ceramic tile top resting on metal legs was designed adjacent to the living room. A bar unit was smartly designed between the two spaces.
The kitchen, next to the dining and the bar, has top cupboards dressed in veneer and bottom in a Bluish Green -toned laminate. The stone that provides a contemporary and sober elegance is quartz in satvario finish. It’s a soft contrast to the woody and Bluish Green finishes.
The master bedroom priorities functional furniture, like a wardrobe with a connected dressing unit and a TV ledge. The paneling was done as needed and finished with a grey satin-finish paint like the wardrobe. An alcohol paint art piece compliments the Prussian blue headboard and furnishings. The attached bathroom was very cleverly designed in a very tiny space. The guest cum study room holds a workstation customized in a metal framework and a sofa cum bed.
The common wash basin is matched with the common toilet in terracotta textured tiles placed vertically, adding to the elegance. The balcony next to the dining area is finished with wooden flooring, giving out the feel of a deck.

Minimalism, proportions and clean straight lines. His priority has always been understanding his clients, then their needs and delivering a design which fits their budget and not what he wants them to have. He believes that anybody can design, but only an architect can design with a plan. He promises intelligent guidance to his clients, ensuring their spaces are straightforward yet unique and yearn for timelessness.
As a practice, we believe in teaming up with people with similar design ideologies. We are keen and vigilant enough to know where to intervene and where to give freedom to the artisans to ensure better results from the process.
