Ojas – A Tribute to Orissa  | Innches Studio | Bengaluru

Ojas – A Tribute to Orissa unfolds through an earthy, layered design language, in which cultural detailing is interpreted with a contemporary sensibility. Designed by Innches Studio in JP Nagar, Bengaluru, the home is defined by warm textures, tactile finishes, and handcrafted elements. Kota flooring, limewashed walls, rattan accents, brick cladding, and Alankaram wood furniture together create a calm and grounded atmosphere. The restrained palette, paired with natural materials and artisanal details, lends the spaces a timeless character rooted in warmth and subtle sophistication.

The Principal Designer, Meenakshi Rohilla, share that the design approach focused on balancing strong cultural references within a refined contemporary setting. Working around the existing artwork while thoughtfully incorporating Orissan influences throughout the home, the visual language was carefully shaped to feel balanced, expressive, and deeply rooted in artisanal traditions. Elements such as Konark Chakra-inspired detailing, Ikat-patterned skirting, teakwood ceiling borders, and framed Pattachitra artwork were thoughtfully incorporated to introduce depth, texture, and a distinct handcrafted identity throughout the home.

Living Area

The living area reflects an earthy, artisanal character, shaped by layered textures and warm material tones. A suspended wooden swing with cane detailing becomes the focal point of the space. A classic sofa and lounge chair with wooden and cane bases, upholstered in traditional-inspired prints, introduce warmth, softness, and pattern to the setting.

The limewashed walls create a muted backdrop, enhanced by delicate moulding details and framed Pattachitra artwork that adds cultural richness to the setting. A floating wooden TV console unit with woven inserts complements the overall palette, while brick cladding and teakwood ceiling borders introduce warmth, depth, and a refined handcrafted rhythm throughout the space.

Charming Balcony

The balcony corner carries a relaxed and crafted charm through patterned flooring, earthy planters, and natural wooden elements. A foldable wooden chair style creates a cosy seating spot, while vibrant wall plates introduce an artistic touch inspired by traditional craft. Lush indoor plants soften the setting beautifully, allowing the space to feel calm, refreshing, and closely connected to nature.

Inviting Dining Area

The dining area blends natural warmth with refined detailing through a balanced mix of wood, cane, and soft neutral finishes. A marble-top dining table paired with cane-detailed wooden chairs creates an inviting and elegant setting for gatherings. The arched crockery unit with fluted glass shutters introduces a distinctive architectural element, while the wooden storage base below adds warmth and functionality to the composition. Decorative pendant fixtures above the table cast a soft ambient glow, complementing the teakwood ceiling borders, framed artwork, and earthy material palette throughout the space.

Subtle Mandir

The mandir is thoughtfully framed within an arched wooden cabinet inspired by traditional detailing, introducing a strong cultural presence to the dining space. Intricate circular carving details on the shutters add a handcrafted character, while the warm wood finish blends beautifully with the surrounding earthy palette. Positioned beside the dining zone, the mandir becomes a subtle spiritual focal point woven naturally into the overall design language.

Aesthetic Kitchen Area

The kitchen follows a clean and earthy design language shaped through soft neutral tones, warm wooden hints, and patterned flooring. Matte-finished cabinetry paired with dark countertops creates a balanced contrast while maintaining visual simplicity. Open wooden shelves and fluted glass cabinets introduce warmth and texture to the kitchen, while the patterned flooring brings a sense of charm and decorative richness to the overall setting.

The washbasin area carries a refined elegance and earthy character through its rich material palette and traditional detailing. Terracotta-toned tiled walls paired with a wooden storage unit create warmth and texture, while the scalloped mirror frame introduces a decorative artisanal touch. Turned wooden spindle elements add sculptural depth to the setting, complemented by a delicate pendant fixture that softly illuminates the space with elegance.

Calm Master Bedroom

The master bedroom carries a calm and handcrafted elegance through its earthy palette and detailed wooden elements. A smooth upholstered bed with wooden framing introduces softness, complemented by floral-patterned wallpaper that adds subtle visual charm. While a softly pendant light introduces warmth and softness to the bedroom.  The wardrobe shutters feature decorative traditional-inspired motifs, bringing a strong artisanal identity to the room. A window-bay seating nook framed in wood creates a cosy corner near the window. The arched mirror beside the wardrobe adds a refined decorative touch to the overall setting. Existing artwork was thoughtfully blended with subtle Orissa-inspired detailing, allowing the bedroom to feel layered, warm, and quietly connected to the home’s overall cultural narrative.

Cheerful Kid’s Bedroom

The kid’s room is designed with a playful and cheerful character while maintaining the home’s warm material palette. Soft pastel tones, illustrated wall art, and scalloped detailing introduce a lively visual charm to the space. A compact study corner, open shelving, and built-in storage ensure functionality without creating visual clutter. The bed with under-storage drawers keeps the layout practical and organised, while natural light softly brightens the room. Decorative cushions, a pink blind curtain, and gentle curves further add comfort and a child-friendly warmth to the overall setting.

Welcoming Guest Bedroom

The guest bedroom reflects a grounded and welcoming atmosphere shaped through earthy colours, handcrafted detailing, and simple furnishings. Terracotta-toned linear detailing behind the bed introduces texture and warmth, complemented by muted bedding and rich accent cushions. A wooden bedside table with artisanal tile inlays adds a subtle decorative touch, while the window seating framed in wood creates a cosy resting corner. Pendant lighting and soft neutral walls maintain visual calm, allowing the room to feel comfortable with a window bay sitting, relaxed, and thoughtfully connected to the overall design language of the home.

Overall, Ojas – A Tribute to Orissa reflects a thoughtful balance between cultural richness and contemporary comfort. Earthy materials, artisanal detailing, and warm natural finishes come together to create spaces that feel grounded, layered, and visually calming. From the patterned flooring and limewashed walls to the cane accents and traditional artwork, every element contributes to a cohesive narrative rooted in heritage. Designed by Innches Studio under the guidance of Meenakshi Rohilla and Prathap Sherihgar, the home stands as a refined interpretation of regional influences shaped through a contemporary lens.
