Tikadia Residences – An Ode to Calm Balance | Design Vault | Mumbai
Designed for a multigenerational family of five who wanted their home to exude a modern identity while celebrating & traditional elements Our Design approach hence explores a ‘modern classic ‘ paradigm bringing in a desert decor vibe infused over a muted backdrop with the addition of light wood and warm tones. We have kept things Simple yet Elegant .The use of space and its elements inspire calmness and balance while overlooking the busy cityscape.
Elements, features and textures are meticulously blended to create a warm, cosy space with few plug in tchotchkes that bring character to the space which boasts of a subtle desert palette. The space honours natural materials viz-light woods, marbles emphasising visual interest through wall accents. All furniture elements have soft curves and celebrate transitional blends in the joinery.
Entrance
Main entrance is warm and inviting, rendered in light satin PU fluting and lined textures. Entry inside the home is swiftly defined by a light Oak mandir unit. As one enters the formal living room, the eye immediately travels to the fluted wall panelling with a multi- media art display, offering a subtle contrast to the greige backdrop.
Living Area
A west-oriented window of the hall steeps the space in sunlight, turning it into a lightbox during the day. The tall mandir presides over the space extending its subtle fluting detail along the length of the room that binds the space. The sofa through its soft salmon hues adds a happy accent to the otherwise desert scape. A Jhula adds a bit of fun- momentum to the static elements- rendered in light oakwood.
Celebrating Colour
The overall colour palette is supremely subtle, breaking into a vibrant pop of colour on an otherwise neutral base, in which grey plays a stellar role. We insisted on the use of shades which would reflect natural light, since we were not able to enlarge or alter the existing fenestrations .
Natural light bounces off the various textured surfaces to generate a gentle glow, creating a vibrant – breezy space. Accents of light Oak wood bring a natural element into the mix, creating serene and inviting spaces.
Dining Area
A capsule shaped travertine marble table top with delicate wooden fluting base defines the dining area with a buffet type seating – creating a winder passage for the hallway.A artsyBuffet unit tucked in besides the dining table -houses a ‘Pichwai Shrinathji painting’ which was a special ask from the client. The dining wall dons 3 B/W frames from the Calcuttan Galley – depicting marvels of architectural arches.
A corridor dons a delicate grid moulding -forming a beautiful space for the client (an avid photographer) to display his favourite clicks from the family’s travels.
Parents Room
Facing east, the sun rays hit this room first, giving energy to begin the day, so it only made sense to turn the space into a Calming Sanctuary. The use of accents of warm wood, all white & light surfaces bounces the light, brightening the space even further! A Vintage Forest (Grisaille Style) theme wallpaper, adds to the naturesque theme.
Master Bedroom
The walls inspire a french parisian aesthetic through various mounding which also extend to a ceiling cornice. A soft greige splashed over the headboard renders elegance, sophistication, while a light burgundy side table with gold trims adds a blend of traditional and luxurious element. Our interpretation of a ‘gilded mirror’ creates a neatly tucked in dresser along the wardrobes.
The lighting has been handpicked to create a dramatic statement for every area. Masquerading as installations, the fixtures draw attention even when they are not switched on, and add to the transitional feel of the space. Dominated by white globes and modern forms, decor lights give abundant mood lighting options.
The light fixtures adds an interesting visual element during the day while illuminating the space in the evening.
Kids Room
The walls are quenched in crisp grey tints & tones with furniture popping in hints of soft melon-orange and light wooden accents. A grid wall displays curios, diy projects and memorabilia inspiring the teenager’s creativity- we call it opportunity for organised chaos!
Decor comprises carefully curated paintings and curios collected over a period of time, to add an exclusive touch to every room. Basic idea was to elevate the ambience of this home, making it an ultimate mix of bespoke and signature aesthetics.
