Melange | Bizzle | Mumbai
A family home is the conclusion of the personalities of every member of the family – An amalgamation of thoughts and ideas, an elixir of love, laughter and warmth- ‘MÉLANGE’.
Located in the hustling locality of Lokhandwala, this residence truly reflects the ideal feeling of ‘Coming back home’. A family home for over 35 years, this residence was given a facelift just before an upcoming wedding in the family to welcome the new bride. The make-over had to be quick and strategically planned in phases as the family was living in the same house during the renovation. According to the architect, the project was completed within 5 months with efficient furniture solutions and elementary materials.
Planning
The final layout was a result of combining 2 apartments of 3 bedrooms each, such that, the Living and Dining area form the heart of the space and the bedrooms and utility areas are pushed to the sides. The passage provides ease of circulation as well as privacy for the bedrooms. The layout facilitates a dedicated laundry/utility room in addition to the kitchen.
Entrance foyer
An elegant hand painted Buddha art by artists Kalpesh Thakker and Himit Parekh welcomes one into the space with a thoughtfully designed shoe storage along with seating.
Living and Dining areas
The Living room is open and inviting with ample natural light infiltrating into the space. The color palette is neutral with delicate accents and finishes that provide a soothing, homely feel. A cozy corner with high-back lounge chairs adds a pop of color to the Living room, in addition to the formal seating arrangement. The dining room is a space where the family comes together every day, to interact or simply spend time together. It is also where guests are entertained. The textures and colors flow seamlessly through the Living and Dining areas and a few metallic accents add an element of interest. Engineered wood flooring was chosen by the architect to save time and add warmth to the entire home.
The Kitchen and Utility room are simple yet optimally functional.
Master Bedroom
Owing to the compact sizes of the bedrooms, providing effective storage solutions was a must. The color palette has been kept subtle and muted. Overall simplicity is what defines this space best.
Son’s room
A pop of electric blue on the wardrobe is the statement feature that adds vibrancy to the otherwise compact room. A cozy nook with a vibrant love seat has been specially crafted for the couple to lounge or watch TV within the bedroom. The balance of colors in the space creates an alluring effect and the room reflects the dynamism of the young couple.
Den/Study
The clients are ardent book-lovers and music enthusiasts. The Den cum Study area was designed keeping in mind these interests. The elaborate book shelf is the main feature of this room. A compact desk, a cozy reading corner by the window and a comfortable sofa-bed complete the space. Set of 4 pouffes create a base for playing board games or act as additional seating.
The architect summarizes this space as modest and unpretentious – Where one can ease onto the couch and enjoy some delicious home cooked meal with family!
