Rooted in the richness of Indian craft enriched by contemporary sensibilities, Quietly Ornate residence explores a more refined expression of modern Indian living. Spanning 900 sq. ft. in Koregaon Park, Pune, the residence draws on the cultural influences of Jaipur and Indore, translating heritage into a layered design language for a young couple. Designed by Elysian Design Studio, the interiors give ornament architectural presence, allowing traditional detail to define the home’s character without overwhelming its contemporary clarity. Embroidered wall coverings, carved timber, cane, burnished brass, artisanal textiles and Indian art establish a dialogue between intricate craftsmanship and visual restraint.
Lead Designers share that the project reimagines Indian heritage through a compelling interplay of intricate craftsmanship, cultural richness and contemporary design, creating a distinctive expression of modern Indian living. Drawing inspiration from Indian architecture, art and craft, the approach translates cultural heritage into a layered yet refined interior language. A restrained palette allows these intricate elements to retain their individuality, creating a home where traditional artistry feels relevant to a new generation while maintaining a distinctly contemporary character.
Artistry Living Room
Indian artistry takes centre stage in this living room, where illustrated wall panels and traditional detailing lend the interiors a distinctive cultural identity. A classic sofa rests against an expansive mural depicting an Indian landscape, framed by an elegant, curved outline that gives the artwork architectural prominence. The carved wooden framing around the window introduces another layer of craftsmanship, complementing the floor-length curtains in sheer white and muted beige.
A floral-upholstered armchair and a wooden centre table add pleasant character to the seating arrangement. Across the room, the TV unit pairs a streamlined floating unit with cane-fronted drawers, while arched niches featuring Sanskrit lettering of the Navkar mantra and a classic wall art enrich the composition with traditional detail. The black cabinet with an integrated slender wooden bench adds a striking traditional accent, complemented by the colourful folk-art painting above in a living corner.
Heritage Dining Area
The dining area centres on a polished wooden table with sculptural turned legs, paired with cane-backed chairs featuring floral upholstery. A built-in bench with a cushioned seat extends along the wall, accompanied by a richly carved wooden mirror mounted elegantly. Framed traditional artworks add visual rhythm to the light-toned walls, while brass wall lights introduce subtle metallic accents. A series of suspended glass pendant lights illuminate the setting, complementing the warm timber tones and traditional craftsmanship throughout.
Classic Kitchen Area
The classic kitchen pairs richly coloured lower cabinets with natural wood overhead units featuring woven cane panels, creating a distinctive interplay of colour and texture. A black countertop adds contrast, while the patterned backsplash introduces traditional motifs through geometric borders and floral details. Open wooden shelving provides space for everyday essentials and decorative accents, adding character to this richly detailed kitchen.
Traditional Master Suite
The guest bedroom pairs a patterned upholstered bed’s headboard with a modern side table, creating a striking contrast against the cream walls. Its blue and white asymmetrical headboard extends into integrated bedside surfaces, while a decorative wall moulding frames woven circular artwork above, emphasising it well. The full-height blue wardrobe features inset cane panels and rounded wooden knobs, adding texture to its bold colour scheme. A working table sits beneath open blue shelves, accompanied by a tall mirror that visually connects the dressing area with the sleeping space. Neutral finishes maintain balance throughout this bedroom area elegantly.
Serenity Guest Room
The master bedroom centres on a traditional four-poster bed, distinguished by turned wooden pillars and an intricately detailed headboard. A full-height timber wardrobe features decorative patterned borders and a central panel depicting a traditional Indian cultural scene. The adjoining dressing area combines a sculptural, organically shaped mirror with wooden cabinetry, cane-fronted storage and a compact countertop. Open curved shelves and small decorative pieces complement the classic wooden table unit, adding further character. Rich timber finishes and warm neutral walls unify the bedroom’s heritage-inspired detailing.
When heritage becomes part of the design language, a home acquires a character that extends beyond aesthetics. Quietly Ornate brings Indian craftsmanship into contemporary living through carved timber, illustrated panels, woven textures and traditional motifs, each contributing to a richly layered visual narrative.
