A New Paradigm for Global Professional Learning: Yates Education | 1:1 Design Studio by Prashil Modi | Krunal Mistry Studio | Ahmedabad
The landscape of professional education in India is undergoing a profound transformation. As students increasingly pursue global certifications, the environments in which they prepare must reflect those international standards of excellence and professionalism. This shift is perfectly encapsulated in the recent transformation of Yates Education in Ahmedabad. A collaborative masterpiece by Krunal Mistry Studio and 1:1 Design Studio by Prashil Modi, this project redefines the spatial identity of a private tuition institute specifically dedicated to ACCA (Association of Chartered Certified Accountants) students.

Spanning a generous 6,500 sq. ft., the design moves beyond the “conventional coaching center” trope. Following a significant academic milestone and institutional expansion, the client sought to create a contemporary academic ecosystem that reflects the global ambition, professional discipline, and high-octane energy of the ACCA student community.

Designing for the Global Professional: The “Full-Day” Experience
The architecture of Yates Education is rooted in a deep understanding of the student’s daily journey. ACCA aspirants are preparing for careers that span international borders, often involving grueling study schedules that require them to spend 8 to 12 hours a day within the institute. Recognizing this, Krunal Mistry Studio and 1:1 Design Studio by Prashil Modi utilized the 6,500 sq. ft. floor plate to move away from a singular focus on classrooms, creating a holistic learning ecosystem.

The design introduces a variety of “micro-environments” that cater to different cognitive needs throughout a long day of preparation:

The Focused Classroom:
Sound-optimized spaces designed for intensive lectures on global accounting standards, ensuring maximum concentration.

The Library-cum-Study Area:
A sanctuary for quiet reading and deep work, acknowledging that self-study and digital research are as vital as guided instruction in the ACCA curriculum.

Discussion Rooms:
Dedicated pods where tutors conduct focused doubt-solving sessions, fostering a collaborative rather than competitive atmosphere.

The Student Pantry:
A dedicated eating and relaxation area. By acknowledging the need to “recharge,” the design prevents burnout and promotes a healthier, more sustainable academic lifestyle.

Strategic Zoning: The Art of Spatial Hierarchy
One of the most impressive feats of this Ahmedabad-based project is its clear zoning strategy. To manage the high density of students across the 6,500 sq. ft. premises without creating visual or acoustic chaos, the designers split the institute into two distinct functional worlds: the Student Zone and the Faculty Zone.

The Student Zone: Energy and Accessibility
Occupying the front portion of the layout, the Student Zone is the heart of the institute. By placing high-traffic areas like classrooms and the pantry near the entrance, the design minimizes the distance students need to travel, accommodating the constant movement between lecture blocks. It is an active, vibrant environment where the “hustle” of professional growth is celebrated through open layouts and accessible amenities.

The Faculty Zone: Privacy and Professionalism
Positioned deeper within the floor plan, the Faculty Zone serves as a quiet retreat. By separating the staff from the primary student circulation paths, the design ensures that administrative tasks and faculty preparation occur without disturbance. This spatial hierarchy maintains a sense of order and institutional discipline—qualities that are synonymous with the ACCA qualification.

The Circulation Spine: A Masterclass in Movement
In an educational interior of this scale, the corridor is often an afterthought. At Yates Education, the central passage is a defining spatial feature. Designed as a wide “circulation spine,” it is built to handle heavy footfall during class transitions without the bottlenecking common in traditional institutes.

However, the corridor is more than just a functional path. The design team integrated a distinctive grid ceiling that runs the entire length of the spine. Stretched linear lighting elements are embedded within this grid, establishing a sense of rhythm and direction. This “runway” effect subtly guides students toward their destination while creating a visual continuity that binds the 6,500 sq. ft. layout together into a singular, cohesive brand identity.

A Refined Material Palette: Balance and Identity
The aesthetic language of Yates Education is one of intentional restraint. To foster a sense of calm—crucial for students dealing with high-stress global examinations—the base palette remains consistent and neutral across the institute.

Student Areas:
The neutral backdrop is punctuated by selective bright accent colors. These pops of color introduce a youthful energy and help in wayfinding, identifying different zones without overwhelming the senses. It reflects the vibrant character of students aiming for international careers.

Executive Spaces:
In the faculty areas and the Managing Director’s cabin, the material palette shifts toward a more executive feel. Here, the designers utilized refined finishes and controlled detailing to emphasize professionalism and corporate hierarchy.

Interior lover team’s view on the project
Anchored in the evolving landscape of global education, Yates Education is a 6,500 sq. ft. academic environment in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, designed by Krunal Mistry Studio in collaboration with 1:1 Design Studio led by Prashil Modi. The project reimagines the conventional learning space through a contemporary lens, creating an environment that aligns with the aspirations and discipline of internationally focused students. The interiors are shaped by a structured yet fluid design language, where clarity of planning and material restraint come together to support focused engagement. A neutral palette forms the foundation, allowing subtle accents to introduce energy and assist in intuitive navigation across the space.

Clean lines, modular elements, and refined finishes contribute to a professional and uncluttered aesthetic, while layered lighting enhances functionality and spatial rhythm. Thoughtful zoning ensures a seamless balance between active and quiet areas, maintaining both dynamism and order within the overall composition. Material choices and detailing are carefully calibrated to foster concentration while maintaining a sense of visual calm. The result is an environment that feels efficient, contemporary, and purposeful—an academic setting that reflects the rigour, ambition, and global outlook of its users.
