Breeze House | The Subtle Studio | Kandivali, Mumbai
A 700 Sq.ft. 2 BHK apartment on the 22nd floor of a high-rise tower in Kandivali, Mumbai overlooking the western express highway, blessed with a beautiful view, abundant natural light and cross ventilation. This tranquil abode portrays modernity. Predominantly painted, soothing white walls with hues of colour give each space its distinct character. The floor plate boasts concrete finished flooring. Built-in window seats in the living room and 2 bedrooms are finished in artificial stone with a hint of gold and serve as a perfect spot to enjoy mellow music and a sunset view. – remarked by The Principal Designer
Keeping that in mind for Breeze House, The Subtle Studio acquired a minimalist approach to designing the space by keeping simple materials and a colour palette. Simple materials and easy-on-eye colour palettes rightly define the home. Everything here belongs and has a character that supports the design.
ENTRANCE
The main door is the first thing that gives the glimpse of an entire home. With its simple design principles and an amiable use of materials, a project validating the use of a decent and justifiable material palette and brass jaali to outline the sublime spatial characteristics is what the entrance door design represents.
KITCHEN
The foyer opens into a fluid kitchen. Green kitchen cabinets with touches of rose gold handle compliment pastel subways tiles and natural stone countertop. This elegant L-shape counter kitchen gives a vibrant and energetic look. The pastel tiles backsplash adds a modern look to the whole space. Simple materials and easy on eyes colour palettes suitably define the kitchen space. This kitchen design creates a smooth visual transition and connectivity between the spaces.
LIVING AREA
The living room is the heart of this house and accommodates interactive sitting pockets. Two beautiful modern sofas with blue and blush pink upholstery compliments with the window bay sitting. Two arches in sage green and oak wood finish stand tall on either side of the living room. One arch harbour’s a concealed dining table that seamlessly flushes within it. Another arch has an inbuilt walnut finish console and a hidden glass partition that separates the foyer from the living area. Timeless pieces of artifacts collected over the years along with strategically positioned wooden moulding and pop of colour on the wall are a treat to one’s eye.
SITTING AREA AND DINNING AREA
The plush living space looks spacious and cozy as well as dramatic. The sitting area and dining area are smartly designed by The Subtle Studio, which has enchanting wooden furniture. For sitting area wooden chairs with unique table compliments the dark tone rug. The glorified artifacts on the wall with a grey background are the highlight features of this space. Next to the sitting area in a corner space two chairs and a wooden table bloom up due to the selection of curtains while wooden texture flooring adds a luxe factor.
While the dining space is décor with an arch harbour’s a concealed dining table, it is accompanied by a beautiful wooden bench. Whereas light fixture on a green pastel background just add elegance to the space. All the elements in the dining area just compliment the décor of the interior.
FIRST BEDROOM
Beaming rays of light seeping through the window and playful bands of burnt rose pink running across the wall and ceiling creates a dramatic experience in the young couple’s bedroom. The bed back wall is kept plain white with grey tufted headboard in wooden framing and beautiful light fixture just complement each other. With a window bay sitting design approach that breaks conventions yet is balanced and fits for the context. While brown and grey wardrobe design looks elegant with the bedroom décor.
SECOND BEDROOM
The bedroom of an elderly couple is an ideal example of lucid design, elevated by the blue band on the headboard wall. The refurbished wardrobe sits pretty in an oak wood finish with embellished rustic handles. It further extends into an alcove for the afternoon reads. A beautiful window bay sitting and dressing unit mirror design makes a more elegant look to the bedroom interior.
The aim was to embody the client’s dynamic personality in space. It was intentionally decided to create different colour schemes in each room to create a sense ofa creativity. However, certain elements like the straight lines, the use of wood, and natural stone for window bay sitting were carried along the various areas to create a sense of harmony and continuity.
The Principal Designer Bernice Coutinho of The Subtle Studio, treat each project individually and instead of following any set language, they adopt an approach that is most appropriate to a project in terms of need, context, and requirements. Rather than following current trends or pursuing cleverish approaches, firm believe in designing long- term spaces wherein the designs are well balanced, contextual and appropriate.
