Welcome to this most recent residential interior design project, a 1250-square-foot property located on the land of Rk Studio Chembur which is now known as Godrej RKS. This mid-century modern home, designed for a retired couple and their young daughter, exudes a bright yet gentle ambience that refreshes and relaxes you from the moment you walk in. The carefully curated design elements create a seamless blend of comfort and sophistication, making it the perfect sanctuary for the family.
Design Concept
The palette focuses on earthy and neutral tones, with minimal pops of colour to create a serene yet invigorating atmosphere. Key materials include glass overlays and rattan, seamlessly blended throughout the house to add a touch of uniformity and elegance. Natural light is maximized through large windows, enhancing the warm and inviting ambience. Subtle textures and patterns are incorporated to add depth and interest without overwhelming the space.
Client’s Vision
The clients, a couple enjoying their retirement and their daughter, envisioned a home that feels both bright and subtle. They wanted their space to incorporate a blend of old and new, featuring their cherished console pieces and an extensive artwork collection. The clients wanted to retain the existing flooring while redesigning the space. This presented a challenge, especially since they didn’t want to demolish any walls. As avid book readers, they also desired a dedicated library space. The designer transformed a compact guest bedroom into a cosy den with bi-fold doors that open up the area.
Style and Sustainability
Taking into account the client’s personality, the designer embraced a mid-century modern style. Sustainability was a priority, so they chose rattan as their key element for its eco-friendly properties, ensuring functionality and a seamless blend with the overall design. To further enhance the sustainable approach, we incorporated reclaimed wood and energy-efficient lighting solutions. The final design reflects a harmonious balance between aesthetics, environmental consciousness, and practicality.
Living and Dining Area
The living and dining areas exude an earthy charm with subtle pastel colours. These spaces are designed to be both welcoming and serene. Thoughtfully chosen decor pieces add a touch of elegance while maintaining the overall cosy feel. Earthy tones with subtle pastel accents create a warm, inviting atmosphere.
Den Room
The den features earthy bi-fold wooden doors and a French library look, complete with a massive printed backdrop fabric. This room offers a perfect blend of functionality and aesthetics for the family to enjoy their reading.
Kitchen
The kitchen stands out with its lush green backsplash, adding a vibrant and exciting touch to the space. The sleek countertops and modern appliances complement the backsplash beautifully, creating a harmonious and stylish environment.
Daughter’s Room
The daughter’s room is designed with an autumnal theme, featuring cosy and warm elements. Soft, eye-soothing-coloured drapes frame the windows, complementing the lighting fixtures elegantly. The room is complete with soothing accents that add to the overall sense of comfort and seasonal charm.
Master Bedroom
The master bedroom boasts a subtle mauve palette, creating a tranquil and elegant retreat. Delicate patterns adorn the throw decor and curtains, adding a touch of natural beauty that enhances the serene ambience. Soft, ambient lighting further enhances the room’s calming atmosphere, making it a perfect haven for relaxation.
Favourite Elements
The home is a harmonious blend of striking yet functional features, such as the entry rattan clock partition that adds character and division without blocking light. In the heart of the home, the kitchen’s green backsplash injects life and vibrancy, making cooking a joyous experience. Moving to the den, a bookshelf backdrop fabric coupled with bi-fold French doors creates a cosy and sophisticated library feel, inviting one to immerse in books and quiet contemplation. Lastly, the daughter’s cosy autumn chaise corner is a delightful spot that exudes seasonal charm while offering a perfect retreat for relaxation and reflection.
The unique blend of the client’s requirements with high aesthetics truly sets this project apart. Each space within the home exudes a thoughtful balance of functionality, sustainability, and beauty, creating a harmonious living environment for the family.
