The Green Axis | Hitesh Mistry and Associates | Ahmedabad

Client’s expectations – We only met the owner of the house Vipulbhai along with his wife who is a entrepreneur. Designing a house for family of 6 which included kids and parents – they wanted to house to be internally connected and filled with light and green views with a quality of timelessness.

Concept of the Project– we had a perfect square  plot to play with, placing the the house on the center of plot led us to two axis on the site with good amount of space in front and back, the plan was worked out in detail according to these axis. As the plot was south facing many extruded spaces hence the balconies and verandas were created in front facade to avoid the direct sun into the house along with the water body and garden on front.

While planning the house according to axis which made the spaces face the views. The design of the house is an extrovert one, which makes each room/space connected to the outdoor with a view in all four directions. The house plan has two vertical and horizontal axis which connects with all the rooms on both the sides- it has 5 spacious bedrooms, alone with formal and a casual living room, 5 master bathrooms with connected dressings and many outdoor seating areas.

Having kids living a hostel life they wanted the house to be felt like a vacation home for them which made us include a pool and home theater in the house. A drive way and wooden deck with water body with Tulsi kyara* leads in from the entrance of the house with view of another water body indoors and set the close-to-exteriors theme of the house.

As one enters the house there a  wooden bench with minimal details on side of hammered brass partition which is a unique piece of craftsmen ship to create a impression( it took 2 months of labor). Then comes the pooja area which is a semi covered area placed right near the entrance of the house. They layout is unobtrusive and minimal throughout the house.

The living room sofa with high legs and light coffee tables displays the idea of minimalism and light furniture. Contrasting tones of blues and nudes in sofa complements the view and mood of the room. The area which is most used in the house is informal living room with loungers and couch to sit and spend time with family has warm colors of furniture, light and air with view on both axis of the dining area- pool and front garden , again the furniture is high on comfort here yet minimal.

The layout of master bed suggest the hobby of our client that is reading. The book shelf accessible on both sides from lounger and bed makes it a key element of the room with extending balcony with a view of gazebo and front garden.

Son’s rooms has its own beauty with exposed Rcc wall and sky light coming in throughout the day. The layout incorporates the young age factor where the dressing and bathroom are semi open with a modern design twist.

Each bathroom in the house including the powder room has connection to a private courtyard which helps bring the landscape into the house.

The double height stairs and dining area makes it easy to connect the floors vertically. Brass details on for door handles, partitions, dining table, coffee tables, wardrobes, pooja… makes the interiors look more detailed and luxurious. Few of the details like exposed designer 3d walls, clay pots for landscape, staircase details, Italian marble black mirror flooring, double height chandelier were essential accessories which helped us create a design concept of the house.

This house has expansive corridors (which defines axis) on both the floors as well as double heights and skylights which allowed ample daylight into the house all day long. Extended verandas and screens helped in filtering direct light and heat along with privacy inside the house which is important while considering the climate of our city Ahmedabad. The afternoons and evening are cooler in summer due to pool and water bodies surrounded around the house.

The central theme of the house is Modern contemporary. Material pallets include- cortern steel, Italian marbles, exposed concrete, brass.

Architecture, interior and landscape is done by the firm Hitesh Mistry and Associates, thus is synchronized well with each other. Our client gets the nature’s vibe – peaceful time with family and we are happy that their kids enjoy being at home whenever they are back on vacations.
