Residential Interior | The Design Yard | Anand, Gujarat
“I just want a simple family home myself, my wife and my two daughters” is what the clients told the designers at The Design Yard. While the initial brief aimed at keeping things simple, the daughters insisted on making the home at little quirky. The resultant design is an amalgamation of a strong balance of muted warm tones with pops of colours.
Located in the city of Anand, Gujarat, this 900 sq ft apartment aims at creating a simple, clutter free cocoon contrasting with the hustle of the city life. With almost no structural interventions and flooring change, the resultant interior is fashioned through warm wooden tones, wall treatment, artwork and pops of soft furnishings.
The home opens up to a small welcoming foyer set in browns and whites. Meandering through the foyer spaces, one steps into the living area which is furnished with a sectional couch from Maruti Furniture, a custom coffee table, a Chandigarh chair replica, and artwork by Bhoomi Sisodia. On the right of the living is a small nook that serves a Pooja area. A cement textured wall serves as a backdrop from the living area.
A live edge dining gets tucked behind a fluted teak partition which creates a large circulation spaces between the living, kitchen and dining creating a seamless clutter free circulation spine. Photographs by Krishnaraj Jhala on the dining wall.
The elder daughter’s room is seen in shades of blue with a few quirky accents of blue shades on the wall and neutral backdrops, highlighting the daughter’s inclination towards her favourite colour, hence creating a serene aura.
The younger daughter’s room radiates a balance of warmth and bright colours where furnishings contrast with the overall ambience of the space.
The pops of quirk continue in the master bedroom where a stripped colour wall catches the attention, while the rest of the room is in simple browns and whites creating a very warm and cosy ambience.
