Retail Interior | Spin Designs & The Sheen Studio | Ahmedabad
They say “An Arch Never Sleeps” that it is almost living in the way it stands structurally, and this 275 sq. ft. retail store in Nikol, Ahmedabad uses its strength in the most unearthed way.
Nestled amidst the busy commerce of Ahmedabad, this sweet shop stands out in fairness for its flair and flamboyance. The storefront features arches painted in striking blue, making the store divergent from its adjacencies.
This endeavor is a joint venture between two design practices – Spin Designs, Anand ( Principal Designer Firm ) and Sheen Studio, Ahmedabad ( Design partner Firm ). The process proved to be a real challenge for its constricted canvas of 25 ft. of depth and 11 ft. of width, which forced the designers to come up with a design that was subtle yet significant. Which meant they had to strategically select, manipulate and place each material, texture, light, even colours to achieve the desired functional volume of the space.
This sweet shop franchise, first in line, sets a statement in bold blue, wiser white and glamorous gold. Blue for the statements, white for backdrops to bring forth the products into limelight and gold in the accents.
The store unfolds in a series of arches, all of different scale and colour, and yet they submerge in a poetic way and bring the whole space together, into a rhythmic symmetry. The store opens to a monolithic white passage filled with light. This monolithic arcade-esque lobby is used for branding, featuring LED screens aligned with the embossed arches, displaying the products accentuated with gold accent lighting in almost a gallery like setup.
The billing-counter is a sculptures block of white fluted panelling, a strong stroke of gold and a Terrazzo Stone countertop that extends throughout the display counter enhanced further with contemporary pendant light fixtures. In the backdrop – stands a vault of seven glittering gold arches that accommodates more product display, becoming the focal point of the store and making the products the real heroes.
The edgeless all-blue ceiling blends in with the space and simultaneously compliments it. Emphasized further with modern and ample lighting, bringing up the overall aesthetics and ambience of the sweet shop – SUGAR, LIGHTS AND ALL THINGS NICE.
