The space was a defunct warehouse which had to be converted into a party area and bakery. As the existing area was not enough for housing all the requirements of the project therefore some structural changes had to be done to increase the area. After lot of deliberations and discussions, the design team decided to select the whole project around an existing ‘coressia speciosa’ tree which was abutting one of the edge of the warehouse.
This 1200 Sq. Ft. bakery is situated at the Roorkee-Delhi bypass road is a visual Hawaiian treat which breaks away from the prenotioned mirror and tiled paneled wall theme of most of the bakery that we see around us. It is a peaceful fun sharing space which is weaved around nature.
The temporary metal structure of the warehouse was cladded with ‘visaka’ cement board and pinewood sleepers were used as flooring material both to give it a natural feel and also to reduce the dead load on the structure.
The existing PPGI sheet roofing was sandwiched between reeds as an underlay for aesthetical reason and overlaid with thatched roof to reduce the heat gain and thus, resulting in reduction of A.C requirements. The pastel colour palette with pistachio green as the base and the other cool shades enhanced the fun sharing Hawaiian feel.
The semi-covered sitting area was designed, overlooking the existing vegetation with lots of assorted furniture and accessories like hanging pots, designer fans and lights, complemented with nature inspired wall painting with ‘Flamingoes’ being the central element in them truly brings out the fun instinct of people without overwhelming them.
