Blue Tokai Coffee Roasters | Mohit & Associates | New Delhi
The site for the cafe is in Khan Market- New Delhi, which houses a range of cafes, restaurants and bakeries.
The brief given by the client was to design a cosy and comfortable space with interiors that pleases the eyes of the users. They wanted a simple, clutter free space which feels inviting and aesthetic at the same time.
As the brief suggests, the design idea is to create a very cosy ambience inside the cafe with a minimalistic look. The theme is all about simplicity, neutral color palette, and straight, clean lines. To achieve this, a material palette is used that represents neutrality and balance. The material selection was done keeping in mind that minimum elements and colours are used in the interiors. White and grey make the perfect combination for walls and ceiling, with a moulding in pine wood that highlights the walls.
The main counter is finished in pine wood vertical panels and white quartz countertop to give a clean and seamless finish. The counter is designed in a way that a glass display box is placed on the front counter for the customers along with the POS, coffee machine and grinder to emphasize on the experience of coffee making. The back counter has a dishwashing facility and is majorly used for serving. Other necessary equipments are placed under the counter or inside the kitchen area.
A large opening with glass frames helps to form a visual contact between the cafe area and the kitchen where major food preparation takes place and is also used as a service window by the staff for food delivery.
The cafe’s major area is devoted for seating to make more space for customers, with merchandise racks placed near the seating area so that the customers can explore the wide variety of products and equipments that are available for coffee brewing. Two display fridges are also placed there, for displaying the bakery items.
The furniture is also designed in the same grey tone, which further adds to the soothing feeling.
When it comes to creating the perfect ambience for a space, lighting plays a vital role- be it natural or artificial lighting. Right amount of lighting improves mood and energy levels. To make the space look energetic and lively, large sized windows are given to bring in more natural light during the daytime. It helps to give a feeling of openness inside the cafe. For artificial lighting, hanging lights and spot lights are given, which focuses and highlights the merchandise area.
The flooring highlights the space but at the same time it perfectly balances the theme of white and grey, enhancing the overall calmness of the space. The staircase near the kitchen leads to the second floor which also has a seating area and a co-working space.
