Kini’s Residence | Studio Brick by Brick | Uttarahalli, Bengaluru
The Principal Designer implies that Kini’s residence is a tiny piece of heaven designed as a contemporary micro-apartment that embraces family living in Uttarahalli, Bengaluru. At the request of the clients, we were tasked with making the spaces of the house feel bigger and spacious in contrast to the compact structural layout. Studio Brick by Brick first concern was to completely review the existing layout and to review how it could be adapted to the needs of the family. As the main aim was to make each room as spacious as possible by using varied materials with a minimalist approach. The aim was to keep the design aesthetic of the entire apartment neutral in a way that one space flows into another seamlessly. Adaptive with a natural notion that came about while designing the interiors of the house. The concept of having common hues of a colour palette tied all the spaces together to create a holistic design.
The décor has been kept muted and minimalistic to not take away from the core design elements of multi-functional and innovative space-saving techniques. Keeping light tone’s theme, soft patterns and textures make rooms feel more spacious while bright accessories brighten up the ambiance. The living room is conceptualized as a combination of contemporary and eclectic styles. The Pooja nook is designed to reflect the culture and traditions of the clients, all the while being minimalist and subtle. The verticality is defined and carried forward in the foyer with grooves, where designer had used fluted panels along with lighting fixtures following a similar language. The bedrooms of the house are designed with a touch of oomph along with a sense of warmth which create a high-energy environment for its users.
The main entrance design has been kept simple yet welcoming with a geometric pattern on the main wooden door. As visitors enter the foyer, they can spot a wooden shelf with “The Kini’s” name plate on it. While the wall is ornamented with a vertical grove pattern with floral wall art décor which completes the look. The ceiling design is kept very simple where the warm light just highlighted the wall décor.
The living room is conceptualized as an amalgamation of contemporary and eclectic styles. Relying primarily on neutral tons of white, grey and taupe that stand down as the alluring and bold tones of furnish, the trickled green elements add a sense of freshness and vibrancy to the space. A hint of planters has been added every here and there in the house. The source of natural light streaming in from the adjoining balcony, by which the living room looks beautiful with all furnish. The sofa is upholstered with a pleasant grey and, to add some quirks, arm chairs are upholstered with rustic orange. Anchoring the space is a large nested white center table top with a metal base, a perfect combination with the theme of the house. Adding to the snug quotient is the stunning rug that brings it all together. It is beautifully patterned and compliments the whole set up flawlessly. Sofa wall décor with beautiful abstract painting which enhances the wall.
While a TV unit on a grey wall design with a floating shelf with drawer and photos highlighted with spotlight is a great addition to holding décor accents and memorabilia. An arrangement of planters amazingly beautifies the rather large TV wall and also compliments the sober elegant ceiling design.
The dining area is designed as per the contemporary theme of the house, which is highlighted with eye-catching wall décor. The dining set is a cute combination of grey upholstered chairs with a black base, while the dining table with a marble top compliment the wall mirror metal art décor. Illuminating this whole set up is the gold pendent light bulb blobs. While grey rustic wall and dining table sets just enhances the dining area.
The kitchen was designed as minimal as possible, without compromising its functionality and design. Fulfilling all the functional requirements, the kitchen has a black platform and a combination of a white and brown palette of cabinets. While the space between the wall cabinet and platform is highlighted by white tiles with a grey texture which follows the theme of a house.
On the other side of the dining area, a small temple built in a grey and white palette. The temple is positioned in such a way that it is not the first element to catch visitors’ eye when they walk in, but it also acts as a focal point for the house. Gayatri mantra engraved on a grey panel on the back wall of an idol with a beautiful set of light fixtures gives it a luxurious feel. It also reflects the culture and traditions of the client, all the while being minimalist and subtle.
The Master bedroom of the house is designed with a touch of oomph along with a sense of warmth which is bought into the design with the light fixtures and the play of a classic plain and cloudy textures. The design, even with a strong space restraint, flaunts its grandeur and stands out from the rest of the house. The master bedroom interior design has a commanding headboard to impress with vertical lines on it. The bed’s back wall is highlighted with two beautiful wall art on it and accentuated with the modern pendant light in the corner. While a wardrobe with a sliding door in two different tones of grey compliments the room decor. Natural light brightens up the day, and elegant interior lighting adds to the modern decor. The theme of the room and choice of roman curtain looks great with wooden textured flooring.
The Kid’s nursery is envisioned to be mellow and playful with a base of neutral tones and highlights of playful hues, as well as a decent wallpaper with playful prints which create a high-energy environment for its users. The kids’ room has white and warm peach palette with grey touch in furnish. The white headboard of bed and three beautiful pictures compliment the room interiors. A special corner for the study or activity is designed with drawers and open shelves. While the wall is highlighted with tree trunks and animal graphics on the wallpaper. Tones of grey and white are used for wardrobes and a similar toned roman curtain is used for the bedroom.
