The Wooden House | The Room of Elements | Andheri, Mumbai

In a fast-paced city like Andheri in Mumbai, a home provides shell and peace from the hustle and bustle of the city. For the client and their family, The Room of Elements an architectural design studio envisioned this Wooden House to be simple and welcoming with elegant accents where the occupants relax and connect. Understanding the family needs was more important, but keeping aesthetic interior elements in the focus.

The Principal Architects – Sailee Barhate and Ankur Chaudhari say that A warm and laid-back home is filled with wooden textures. It is home to a family of an elderly couple and two sons who visit their parents occasionally. They wanted an extremely functional home with an old-school look yet not too traditional. Each space reflects the client’s aspirations and sophisticated yet contemporary lifestyle. Wood is like wine; it just gets better with age and never seems to lose its beauty. Generous wood accents are what define this particular series and here. It is not only valuable for its sturdiness but also its versatility. While an earthy palette can completely transform a room when used in the right manner.

Entrance

With its simple design principles and an amiable use of materials, a decent and justifiable material palette is used to add sublime spatial characteristics to the entrance design. The entrance door design is made up of wood with an elegant touch of wooden ceiling and a modern light fixture.  While a nameplate in grey is mesmerizingly eye-catching to every visitor. The designer took inspiration from an interesting pattern and carved out the geometrical pattern on a white accent for the entrance foyer wall and classic wooden entrance door design.

Dining Area

Partially visible from the front door, the unconventionally placed dining table sits at the entrance corridor, giving slight privacy through the cane and wood partition at the entrance. Even though the dining nook is abruptly at the beginning of this house, it is expertly curated with a white quartz table top and rather colour-popped fabric for the chairs and the wooden flooring and wooden textured separating it elegantly from the rest of the living Area.

The Mirror grid in the dining area strategically placed opposite the French window makes the space look much larger than it is. Wooden ceiling design and a modern chandelier complement the dining area elegantly. The designers creatively placed a mandir in the corner of the dining area. The Mandir is designed with a wooden door inscribed with small temple brass bells to the jaali adds a classical alluring visual. While the mandir interior gives a softness and serene ambience.

The Living Area

The living room is a celebration of light, featuring rich tones of dappled grey, organic brown, and turquoise bluish-grey colour velvet fabric. Large windows offer plenty of Natural illumination and are draped in a blend of sheer and silver foiled solid grey satin curtains. Modern sofas and a square pouffe accentuate an elegant marble top centre table with a wooden base. The living space was aesthetically balanced for the client who wanted classic-modern décor with wooden elements.

The entire aesthetics of the ceiling using a white palette is very intriguing giving a lighting fixture edge to the look and feel of the house. The wall facing the TV unit is meticulously designed with a grey texture giving it a visual appeal with wooden shelves and modern artefacts.  A Statuario marble cladding wall as a backdrop of the TV unit creates an eye-soothing décor with wooden furniture.

Balcony

Designers creatively emphasize this apartment’s balcony décor for Mumbai homes. The rattan wicker swing in black with pop-up colour cushions and pockets of green on the floor create a warm and inviting look. In contrast, the wooden ceiling design with a classic pendant light complements the planters’ racks’ décor. While a marble-top coffee table and planters with pebbles add charm to this area.

Kitchen Area

The Kitchen is a tidy space with clean lines and flat panelled duco paint finished shutters by Ppromkraft India pvt. ltd. and the white marble finish tile kitchen top and contrasted black glossy finish dado by Nexion tiles. A black sink and faucet produce the much-needed contrast. A state of art modular kitchen system with complete in-built appliances has been introduced for a clean, plainer ambience within this kitchen. The marble cladding wall in a light and dark theme combination gives a classic look to the kitchen area with warm lighting fixtures.

Master Bedroom

Leading into the master bedroom, symmetrical pattern accent walls act as a backdrop for the modern bed. A velvet olive green upholstery headboard complements the accent wall with modern light fixtures. Wooden panelling with symmetrical patterns and linear dark textured panelling is emphasized with hints of golden strips. The bedroom carries the overall elegant concept with a modern dressing unit placed at the entrance of the bedroom which is highlighted with wallpaper on the ceiling.

The room surely gives away some soothing ambience vibes with wooden texture flooring and furniture. A wooden sliding wardrobe tinted with golden reflecting elements is well-designed with a study area as per the client’s requirement. Creatively designers have selected grey furnishings and artefacts elegantly whereas the ceiling with a modern lighting setup complemented the interior décor of the bedroom.

Second Bedroom

This bedroom evokes a soothing feel with its palette largely comprising of two different shades of a wall, wooden panelling, and a light palette wallpaper, all speaking of the elegant decor being in the forefront. A simple chic contemporary room with purple being an eye-catchy colour in this bedroom. While a purple velvet upholstery headboard with a lightly textured backdrop is the focal point of the bedroom.

Selected curtains with a modern dressing area complemented with a pouffe give a very cosy feel to the bedroom. A modern wooden sliding wardrobe is highlighted with golden strips while all the elements, lighting fixtures and ceiling décor create a good ambience in this bedroom. The TV unit is emphasized with a grey textured wallpaper with wooden furniture.

The final result was a space that reflected the users and is the perfect blend between luxury and classic décor. Modern yet contemporary, Classy yet keep lavishness so, the client can find unique, simple, and elegant qualities of natural tones find expression in this apartment. Light is a surprisingly striking aspect because it is calm and settled in its tone. Overall, the interior décor of the residence is well-ornated with different tones of furnishings and wooden elements.

The firm has a diverse portfolio of work in and around Mumbai City, which has a healthy combination of architectural landmarks and new buildings that make up its skyline.
