The Brick Box | Studio Oriental | Vadodara
The Brick Box is an earthy residential project elegantly nested in Nizampura, Vadodara- Gujarat by Studio Oriental an architectural interior design studio. Design ideas attempted to creatively address the elementary yet essential needs of a functional and sustainable abode with the help of justifiable architecture. The design brings up the idea of an exceptionable dwelling by understanding and responding to the climate and context in the best of its spirit through using Natural light, and a permeable façade as key components.
The Principal Architect Shivani Dave shares that The Brick House is nestled in an urban setting, this ground plus three-storeyed residence is designed in such a way that there is a smooth transition between the indoors and the outdoors, which is created through large balconies and terraces on each floor giving the inhabitants a sense of being one with nature.
Terracotta jali, brick cladded facade, stonecrete plaster, and black kota, all come together gracefully to give this house a sculptural look. In essence, this singular act of architectural intent defines this modern classic residential project. The façade of this building could be seen as a response to the framework or a reflection of structural elements. However, what it truly represents, is an ongoing conversation in the history of modern architecture in India.
This brick façade is an admiration of the idea of architecture as imagined by a classically extraordinary architect. At the same time, the ‘ASHIRWAD’ in a circular black metal plate is well emphasised on a brick wall as a background. The modern lighting fixtures add allure to the brick facade and earthy toned modern structure. In comparison, the interiors are all about muted greys, whites, and timeless wooden tones.
PLEASING LIVING AREA
One enters this house to discover the grandiosity of a lavish living space outlined with a minimalist design style highlighted through fine-drawn wall decor. The italian marble cladding on the TV unit wall serves as the focal facet with the veins of the texture creating an intricate pattern spread across the wall, boasting of an ascendant aura. With a basic geometry, marble wraps around a delicate ledge, encompassing and displaying classic décor elements. With bespoke furniture configurations like light teal upholstery modern sofas, and italian marble top centre tables add modernity to the living interior décor.
AN EYE-SOOTHING STAIRCASE
The wooden modern staircase wall is highlighted with an artistic element that adds luxuriousness to the interior décor. To create a layer of meaning and context for the clients, the designer created a large artistic nature wall into an art piece that gives 3D effects to the wall which is the central feature of ‘THE BRICK HOUSE’. The layer is well emphasised due to the lighting fixtures which also adds an eye-pleasing effect.
A SUBTLE BEDROOM
This bedroom is drenched in elegant luxury elements, with subtly patterned grey panelling becoming a focal point of interior decor. The light-shade tufted headboard is complemented with grey panelling and lighting fixtures. The shelving unit in the corner of this beautiful bedroom adds a modern touch to the décor with selected artefacts. The modern design of the wardrobe complements the bedroom interior décor whereas lighting fixtures add charm to it gracefully.
ACCENTED MASTER BEDROOM
This accented Master bedroom is gracefully ornated with a pastel tone of tint pink and dark grey hues. The full-height tufted tube headboard and grey-tone side tables well accentuate each other. In contrast, a modern globe pendant lighting fixture adds allure to the interior décor of this bedroom. The creative selection of earthy tone furnishing for the bedroom adds classical elements to the interior decoration.
The overall composition and design elements give a peaceful place to live with the hues and tones of the house that bind the spaces together. To complement the colour of the bricks, stonecrete and other structural elements have been introduced. The interior spaces are slowly unfolded to the visitor in an experimental and spatial journey throughout the house. The interior colour scheme and material palette are kept neutral and just the right amount of quirkiness is added to the furniture and lighting which complement the interior elements perfectly.
