The Sun-Light Home | DPLJ Design Studio | Chennai

Warm welcoming decor and highlighting hues, ornamental additions and neoclassical design entices the interiors of this modern residence The Sun-Light Home. The residence with a 3000 sq. ft. area is nestled in the heart of Chennai and it is elegantly ornated by DPLJ Design Studio architectural design firm. Designers intended to create a space that is diverse in use and unified in spirit through neoclassical design.

Principle Interior Designer Purnima Jain specialists in Residential Design have shared the brief for this residence was to keep it simple and elegant with maximum space and use wooden finishes they are fond of. This home is inspired by maximum sunlight entering the house in such a way that its visual and spatial characteristics come together pleasantly. Due to this, it is creating a sense of openness and transparency that allows its residents to connect with this abode. 

ENTRANCE

The main door is the first thing that gives the glims of an entire home.  It’s a perfect blend of modern-classic design with a hint of striking bold hues to accentuate the palette. The entrance door itself speaks of its elegance with a marble cladding wall with signage that complements the dark tone of the main door. A brass Jali door with dark brown framing enhances the charm of the entrance.

LIVING AREA

Step into a world of elegance and design where clean lines meet vibrant accents. From the entrance which is highlighted by a modern console unit with beautiful artefacts and wall decor, that leads to a spacious living and dining area. The lavish living area is ornated with colour schemes used proficiently to balance between the soothing and vibrant shades. Using Italian marble in a beige tone for flooring with complementary brown shades for furniture enhances the living space with natural light.

A geometrical glass panel and an onyx marble cladding for the TV unit while a leatherette L-shape sofa and a marble top centre table add elegance to the living space. The selected artefacts and curtains create a good ambience gracefully. The elegant ceiling décor and lighting fixtures allure the interior of the living area soothingly.

DINING AREA

There is a seamless connection between living and dining, a visually distinct yet harmonious where luxury is redefined in every detail. A modern-classic wooden console unit is used elegantly as a divider for the living and dining areas. The dining area is ornated with a rich dining table with a marble top and stylish dining chairs complementing each other. While a textured wall and ceiling design accentuated by lighting fixtures and curtains in this dining area.

KITCHEN AREA

The effective spacious modular kitchen is the process of combining layout, surfaces, appliances, and design details to form a cooking space that is easy to use. A fresh material palette of minimal and neutral shades is used giving the kitchen a modern look. Every detail in this kitchen is meticulously customized and designed keeping in mind the aesthetics that are elegant and have understated luxury to the client. While a modern breakfast unit with a modern chair and warm lighting fixtures allures the kitchen area.

POOJA AREA

Nestled with elegant features pooja area is ornated in the kitchen area, which is highlighted as a sanctuary for spirituality and peacefulness. The Pooja unit is amalgamated with brown tinted glass with an engraving of the lotus pattern on it. Here, amidst a serene marble mandir with beautiful inlay artwork, it is complemented with warm lighting fixtures from the backdrop.

GRANDPARENTS’ BEDROOM

This grandparents’ bedroom is designed for the head of the family elegantly. It is lavish, reflective, and simple with clean shapes and minimal design to bring in ample natural light. The perfect composition of a leatherette headboard and marble cladding wall makes the attributes of the space with warm lighting fixtures. A blue modern sofa and modern wooden wardrobes complement the elegance of the bedroom décor.

The designer is ornated with simple yet elegant rafters used for the ceiling which ends at the study table gracefully. Adding sheer curtains that allow sunlight to enter the space as per the interior theme and maintain privacy. The designer creatively follows the theme of the bedroom to the attached bathroom where all the sanitary fittings and accessories enhance chic to the décor.

PARENTS’ BEDROOM

The Parents’ bedroom, designed in the theme of contemporary, is an elegant contrast of dark & light. The dark tones of the floor tiles and wall veneer complimented with lighter tones of marble cladding wall. With parallel pattern bed back panelling and ceiling with diffused warm lighting give the room a touch of vibrancy along with cosy and elegant luxury. The simple TV unit wall is highlighted with a modern storage unit which continues creatively for a working desk.

The selected artefacts and other decorative elements add charm to the decor. Whereas, a walk-in closet in the bedroom is well designed with a modern sliding wardrobe in dark glossy décor. The attached bathroom is well-ornated in dual tone elegantly with white sanitary fittings. Wooden texture flooring and white marble cladding walls accentuate each other very well in this bathroom décor.

ELDER SON’S BEDROOM

Designers came up with bright red fabric complemented with rich matte brass finish metal which complement each other. Saturating the feeling of luxury and royalty designer has used a good choice for this bedroom which can be seen in the bed back as well for the side tables. Dark brown veneer furniture and modern ceiling design complete the space with planters that add calmness and positivity.

The modern eye-catching walk-in wardrobe space is elegantly décor with a black colour palette modern wardrobe door and the lighting fixtures provide a feeling of tranquillity. An attached restroom which is creatively separated with a glass partition from a walk-in area is soberly ornated with eye-catching flooring tiles and rustic theme walls.  

SON’S BEDROOM

A peaceful space of natural light and cosy comforts, this second son’s bedroom design seamlessly amalgamates the beauty of daylight with a soothing atmosphere, creating a perfect space for relaxation and creativity. The colour combination of full-height leatherette headrest in dual tone is well emphasized with a modern ceiling design astoundingly.

The simple study area with blue tone working desk shelves accentuates the bedroom interior décor with its simplicity. An attractive modern wardrobe design is the highlight of the bedroom space. The attached bathroom of this bedroom has a character of its own, keeping the colour choices as shades of beige and white with a pinch of dark marble cladding that adds allure to the decor.

FAMILY ENTERTAINMENT ROOM

The modern family entertainment room is cladded with soft cushioning which serves the purpose of surround sound effects and also gives an eclectic theatre vibe. Brown leatherette recliner sofas complemented with a modern centre table. A modern black console unit and selected artefacts enhance the interior design of this family entertainment area. A modern ceiling design and lighting fixtures create a good ambience for the users.

POWDER ROOM

The powder room is well designed with a wow effect which is nicely defined through lighting fixtures and marble cladding walls. The rustic theme wall décor and selected accessories with sanitary fittings add charm to the décor elegantly.

Overall, the theme of the residence is an attempt to create a very innovative language that continues in the whole house yet varies in small distinctions as moves around the house to create an identity for each space. Every detail in the home is meticulously customized and designed keeping in mind the aesthetics that are elegant and have understated luxury to the client. The last slide shows the west sun entering the house, the source of inspiration for designing this house.

DPLJ Design Studio was established in 2018 in Bangalore, India. It was created out of a drive to improve people’s lives by creating amazing places for them to live and work. Lavish Jain and Purnima Jain are the co-founders and principals driving the energy behind everything the firm does. As Head Architect, Lavish Jain creates and designs the space, be it a home or an office. He incorporates the ‘Five Elements of Nature’ or the Panchtatvas into all the projects. As Chief Interior Designer, Purnima Jain breathes life into the space with a personal touch leaving their clients with an immense sense of well-being. One of their core tenets is creating beautiful spaces for their clients with the wide array of knowledge they have amassed through years of learning and excellence. The firm provides services related to hospitality, industrial, residential and commercial.
