Osteostrong Wellness Centre | Spaces & Design | Kolkata
Osteostrong is an American fitness brand with a global presence that focuses on bone health. Introducing their first flagship outlet at Loudon Street- the centre is a 4140 sq ft ground floor space located in the historical Loudon Mansion, an early example of a European house in Kolkata. The building stands out amidst the 19th-century structures that line up Loudon street, making it a heritage project with a contemporary design brief.
Paying heed to the historical context, the centre is an integration of modern and heritage design elements while also being reflective of the Osteostrong brand. A unique design unfolds to represent the modern image of the brand with minimal tampering of the historic architectural features of the building. The wellness centre gives an identity to the first Indian flagship of Osteostrong by adding an Indianised touch to its contemporary brand image.
As one enters through the foyer, there is a large open free space that acts as the central point leading to different areas of the wellness centre. Round overhead lights with a design reminiscent of the Osteostrong logo becomes the highlight of this area. Towards the right is the Spectrum area in the new complex of the building with four custom pieces of equipment. This leads to the training area for the staff and a hydrobath room on the right. The central space also leads into the reception and waiting area that opens up in a meeting space with arch framed views of the landscape.
Yellow and Black form the dominant colour scheme for interiors with muted textured greys and white for certain walls and cornices. Materials like metal and oakwood are used for the majority of interiors complemented with furniture by Spin and locally sourced bespoke handwoven carpets. The restored arches add to the heritage element of the design and combined with other design features create a unique identity for the brand that can be emulated in the other expansions projects of Osteostrong throughout India.
With minimal interventions to the heritage structure and giving the required Indian identity to the brand, Osteostrong’s flagship centre has proven to be a remarkable design journey by Spaces & Design.
