MOKUME – Office Interior Space Design | Arcline Architects | Ahmedabad
Mokume is a Japanese word which means – “Wood Grain Metal”
Strategic usage and arrangements of materials in the space itself derives the name MOKUME.
This work space is the derivation of generational passion and commitment towards profession and social stature that the client will be celebrating. The spaces have been designed and rationalized in a way that they will grow with their own functionality and also a sense of co-habitation will be developed between the spaces and the user.
The design approach for this particular work space is to rationalize the use of limited materials which carve out functional and volumetric spaces using the context as back bone of these volumes. Availability of the natural light is the major contextual element to the space.
Major exterior faces being North and West side, we have a very less time for the sun light penetrating inside the space, so 3 major working spaces have been formulated in a way that the North light becomes useful and all other spaces fall into the grid formed by these 3 major spaces. These spaces with couple of other inward spaces, are connected through a huge general work space area which acts as an anchor to all the connected spaces. This general work space is formulated in a way that the spatial flow of the spaces has been derived through the huge work desk in the center.
3 major materials used are white ash wood, metal and natural stone. The wall surfaces have been treated with the eco-friendly colors and wood has been treated with the eco-friendly mono coats. Materialization of the office has been kept so humble so that the functionality of the space remains dominated. Interplay of the materials creates a harmony both visually & functionally which further captivates spaces. The warmth and versatility of white ash wood has been used to strategies the continuity and intersections of the volumes. Natural stone and metal have been sharp focuses in spaces with the visual balance of white ash wood.
Linearity is the major design element used. This linearity is defined in many different ways in the spaces as it has played a vast role in making spaces proportionately stable. Linearity is also defined in the spaces through metal, wood, natural stone or even colored flutes. The furniture being a part of this linearity passionately defines the spaces in the bits.
The work space has been designed using 3 basic principles which are alignment, composition and balance. These principles have been formalized using listed materials, geometries and spatial arrangements. Strategic usage of these principles has endured the smooth and homogeneous functionality of the spaces.
To conclude, this work space is a humble outcome of our own design beliefs. It symbolizes and reflects the truthfulness of the context to formulation of spaces to the materialization through strategizing linear geometries composed through the basic design principles.
