ऐक्यम् (Harmony) | Anupam Design Studio | Surat
Designed by Anupam Design Studio, ऐक्यम् (Harmony) is a 2350 sq.ft. lavish, 4 BHK residential apartment located in Surat. The apartment has been conceptualised as a melange of magnificence and serenity, a design that bequeaths the architecture of clean lines and minimal aesthetics. The residence has been moulded into a functional and elegant space that evokes a sense of belonging, manifested by contemplating the owners’ personal expressions of it.
Walking up to the apartment, one finds a perforated metal screen punched with niches and doubled with the main entrance door. It imprints the first impression to engage the visitors, in addition to giving a glimpse into the house from the outside. The foyer area has a console finished with wood and coated with PU colour complimenting the wall panelling. A statue of ‘Buddha’ sitting atop connives a tinge of warmth to the entrance area. The interiors blend with finesse into the neutral tones of grey as it strikes the correct balance of light and shade and ignites a feeling of earthiness and austerity.
The house attains its essence rooted into the idea of an open plan, as it unlocks linearly along the East – West axis. Configured with spaces on either of its sides, the layout unveils common gathering spaces at the inception and private spaces towards the rear end of the apartment. The materiality of the house is further deepened by the fusion of a muted granite flooring and wall panels, plain – white, wooden ceilings and grey matt finished furniture. These are juxtaposed with strong colours like charcoal grey in the upholstery and textiles.
The living room sits in front with life size French windows that open up serving as a virtual connection between the inside – outside to capture a panoramic view of the urban setting. A dimension of opulence is induced to the space by the diffused ceiling lights highlighting the granite panelled – feature wall, as it serves as the backdrop for the TV unit. Provision of a family lounge which holds a small temple and seating also serves as a supplementary room to accommodate guests in the house.
Moving towards the central core along the hallway, it leads into the dining area adjoining the kitchen. The dining that spills over into the abutting terrace holds a dining table with a granite countertop along with monolithic wooden chairs, to merge ubiquitously with the rest of the scheme. The walls are washed with a soothing neutral tone, allowing the sunlight to enhance the ambiance of the room during the day whereas the mellow ceiling lights highlight art pieces and the veins of the marble panels at night.
The layout aligns the kitchen into a linear extension of the dining, divided by an island platform. A modular kitchen design with the cabinets facilitated in grey facia and fluted glass openings.
The residence also accommodates four bedrooms including master bedroom, grand-parents’ bedroom and children’s bedroom and a guests’ bedroom. Use of neutral colour tones for the interior of the bedrooms, balancing those out with a touch of contrast postured in the headboards and drapes, and the tranquillity of the marble floors complement the overall minimalistic theme of the house.
The master bedroom, animated by the life-size French windows, projects a familiar lighter tenor with a cushioned pelt headboard along with a bed set. The nitty-gritty put into the details of the fluted stone cladded wall at the backdrop is revivified when opened to the bright day light.
Grand-parents’ bedrooms, similar to the children’s bedrooms, are adorned in a subtle grey tone. The fluted white millwork juxtaposed on the wall in the backdrop of the TV unit along with the panels of the wardrobe, and side tables augment the visual appeal.
The guest’s bedroom is inured with backlit chestnut brown wooden panels in the back wall, grey headboard and tile work, held together beautifully by calming whites, the colour palate reinstates balance and harmony. Every detail has been meticulously curated, from the exquisite drawer knobs and wardrobe handles to the bespoke furniture pieces.
In conclusion the design consciously binds together the elements of elegance and luxury to lend an outcome that caters to the client’s lifestyle, this down-to-earth home – an escape from the archetypal.
